Sony Vaio Laptop - Temps

What are the max temps for a laptop? is there a general rule?.. Im thinking it depends on the proc, and how much power its pulling.

In my case its a 1.6 Ghz Centrino ( Dothan ) and the temps are getting to 60 idle :S. What do you guys think? This is AFTER i applied A5 too, so im not sure whats wrong.. Maybe i put on too much.

Whats my max? why is mine so high? how can i lower it, without purchasing any new stuff ( laptop coolers )ect...???

What you using to record that temp?

I've had a 1.7 and a 2.0Ghz Dothan, and both were relatively cool, running without fan cooling untill you did something like play a movie/run a game/basically anything that used th cpu.

If it's 60 idle with passive cooling, thats ok I suppose, if it's 60 idle with a fan going as well, might need to look at summat. the heatsink may be blocked with dust, and despite AS5-ing the contact, might still not be removing the heat, so check that.

Another thing is to raise the laptop off whatever surface you've got it on. Just a centimetre or two can work wonders, especially if the air intake's are on the bottom.

Btw, most laptop coolers are a waste of time - if you consider buying, have a good read around and dont just trust the first review you come across.

1. The laptop is running 70 idle with the fan off ( i can't hear it, and i opened the laptop up to check if it was running and its not )

2. Why isn't it running? shouldn't it at least be spinning? This one isn't spinning, and when it reaches 70 degrees celcius, it still doesn't turn on :S..

3.It always running on a table. It crashed twice today, and both times it was on a desk. I did check and the air holes are at the bottom, and then theres one for the cpu (hsf) at the back). So maybe ill give that a go.

4. I don't plan on purchasing/wasting money on a cooler, but thanks for the advice anyways

All help appriciated, and thanks in advance!

EDIT : Added pictures. The cooler itself..and the proc on which i put AS5. I don't know if i should spread it, let the cooler spread it OR take some off because it looks like too much for that tiny die OH AND im using Everest

AS5 is fine, if anything you've too much, but it'll just spill over the sides a bit with the right amount of pressure applied - no problems with that.

Almost without a doubt, the problem is the fan not spinning. Unless it's just running silently, if the fan simply isn't turning then that's why you're having problems.

Check it's plugged into the motherboard properly, and if it is, you've a couple of options. 1. Look up the part/model number online and buy a replacement, or 2. ring the manufacturer and have them replace it.

That choice should hinge on whether you're within warranty or not.

Hope you get it fixed.
