PSU for this build

Thread Starter
hope the links will work, anyway

the build:
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/...Number=4378525

the PSU im thinking of
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256020

yes the wattage is overkill, but i couldnt find a good dual rail with good enough rails

i dont really want to go to a single railed PSU but im thinking i might have to

ridiculous!

Theres notta snowballs chance, you need 1kw for that get-up. 750W is still overkill, and plenty of extra to play with.

*Do yourself a favor..save around 800$ off of this wishlist of yours by;

1. ditch the 680i for a P5K = saving of ~200$ + the P5K is an uber OC and much better for quad cores than the 680i
2. A- ditch the e6600 for a e6320 = savings of ~60$, still OC's to 3ghz and has 4mbs of cache... or
B- ditch the e6600 for a e6750 = savings of ~40$, geta faster cpu out of the box + 1333mhz FSB...unlike the e6600
3. You have 2 types of RAM listed...are you meaning to use 8gb's of RAM or 4gb's of RAM...either is pretty pointless, unless you render or use some kind of photo/video editing for a living.
-ditch the RAM on your list for some G.Skill HZ's for ~126$ for the 2x1gb kit...they will easily run beyond 1066mhz.

4. ditch the 1kw PSU for your wallets sake...go for a 750-800W...its more than you'll ever need.

Just my 2cents...it looks like you got a lot of 'fat' to trim from that build before you put it together.

thanks for your advice i had two rams listed because im trying to decide between the two of them, i dont planning on buying both, who the hell would buy two sets of ram that are different speeds to put in the same computer?

the processor, yes i may switch to the e6750, but i cant exactly add that to my wishlist for another week, this build is meant to arrive on the 1st of august so it will be close though

2x1gb? yea thats what everyone told me when i got 2x512 and 2x1gb, it was "ridiculous" "Ill never need that" BS i needed it right away and even now on XP i wish i had more than 2gb and regularly need such, i cant imagine what it would be like on vista

and im ignoring the mobo comment all together, im surprised you didnt tell me to ditch the 8800 for a 7900 or something

and finally, as i said, i KNOW a 1000w PSU is overkill,

but as i said after that, i could not find a quality 2 rail PSU with adequate rails and do not want a single rail PSU, find me a 2 rail 750w PSU with at least 35 amps, of a quality manufacturer with a quiet 120mm+ fan, i dont believe the exist

as far as i can tell its either this one or ill have to go with a single rail PSU, finally any of the alternatives would be close to the same price

YOU can cheap out on your components, ive played that game for a while (and often regretted it), ill be going with premium products this time though as i have a little more money to throw around

Frankly, you appear to be attacking the guy a little hard for giving his own opinion.

You asked for help, you can reject it, but I wouldn't be so aggressive.

Frankly, if you will need that much RAM later, then why not wait until then, when it will be cheaper, to get it?

And you bat aside the mobo comment, same with the PSU - why post here if you are going to reject any points made? If you have your choice, do it. Don't post pointlessly.

Just what I was thinking.

no i rejected his response because he clearly didnt even take the time to read my post, he basically mirrored exactly what i said that 1000w is overkill, i KNOW its overkill, thats the whole reason i made this post and thats why i wrote in my OP that it was overkill and i knew such, but that there were no other lesser wattage PSUs that I could find that had acceptable specs, which is why i posted to see if anyone else knew of one, again because i KNOW i dont need 1000w, but what i do need is at least 35 amps on 2 rails and i have yet to find another PSU to supply that

if he had linked a 750w psu that would work well with the system i would have been more than happy to take the recommendation, he however did not he simply said "OMG *** BBQ YOU STUPID NOOB 1000W PSU U R SO DUMB YOU NEED 750W PSU MAX LOLLERSKATES, AND YOUR PC BUILD SUX TOO USE THESE LOWER QUALITY PARTS INSTEAD TO SAVE MONEY" or at least thats how i interpreted it

by the way latty do you happen to be a DA member?

Either one of these would do the trick:

Corsair HX520W & HX620W

The 520 for a single 8800GTS or the 620 for SLi.

actually neither of those even meet the minimum requirements for the video card of 26 amps
