But my cousin (been obsessed with computers all his life HAS been having IRQ problems.

That is the Bios version, don't know what good it will do knowing it, you can't see the current version if the rig freezes.

Does anyone if Rivatuner will read the Bios in safemode?

I don't think it would... else you could just run NiBiTor and check with that.

Nope it doesn't, Nibitor might, but just like Riva if the driver is not initialized it probably won't.
Spik3 is this a clean install or not, did you correctly uninstall the ATI drivers?

Spik3, I still think you may have a card with a bad Bios flash, or bad card period.
Do you have another AGP card you can try or another board you can try?
OK, thanks for that.

This is what I'm thinking too. I think it might be a conflict of old driver files.

Look here and let us know if you have any questions on what to do. You really need to do this if you have not done so.

Also I too have a BFG 6800GT OC. It is a great card. I experimented with a bunch of drivers and I have had the best results with modded drivers. I use 84.56 Xtreme-G modded drivers. I've tried to find a link for you but I've had no luck. If I find one I'll let you know or I can email you the file. Luckily I saved the driver file to my drive.

Does the unintallation of drivers still apply even if its a fresh windows installation?

If you're trying to read the BIOS file you should obtain nvFlash and NiBiTor. nvFlash is used to obatin a copy of your graphics card's BIOS and NiBiTor can be used to load the ROM file to view various settings from within Windows.

No. Windows usually installs generic drivers from within its libraries, though it should install older ForceWare drivers for you when you first install Service Pack 2. With that in mind, it pretty much rules out the second point I mentioned earlier from being the problem. I recommend you try running memtest86+ to rule your RAM out as being the culprit.

Just because its possible to install them in safe mode doesn't matter as your graphics card isn't being used at this point. Rendering is done by the CPU itself under safe mode useing generic display software and the output is simply put through the graphics card's analogue/DVI port.

2. Apart from the conclusion that your card is screwed it is possible that previous ATI drivers could be conflicting, though this of course would only apply if you owned an ATI card prior to upgradeing and neglected to install the drivers for it.

3. Its entirely possible that your RAM has developed faults, download and run memtest86+ to rule this out as a faulty DIMM can bring up the same symptoms.

Those won't be IRQ problems, more likely a faulty component, or software, issue. Windows is more than capable of handleing the assignment of IRQ's itself. If your cousin even had the remotest idea of how operateing systems handle devices he would realise that the Vitual IRQ system of the latest operateing systems pretty much negates the chance of conflicts ariseing from devices shareing IRQ's.

Infact, you've given me a good idea of a topic to cover in my next FAQ.

You said that you installed the latest drivers,
Quote:
The version that I downloaded is

ForceWare Release 90
Version: 94.24
Release Date: May 31, 2007
WHQL Certified

what version do you recommend downloading?
You do need to follow the link I made in the other post and do as it says.

Click this link and try out. It's not the modded ones but they are still good. See if they make a difference at all. Remember to do this first.
