S754 Newcastle 3200+

I found out my mom has that in her system, and i'm wondering how well it overclocks. It's revision DH7-CG i belive. not sure on its stepping. Right now i'm running a s754 Athlon64 3000 venice, and it maxes out at 2.45ghz. Would the Newcastle max out higher? stock speed is 2.2ghz soo...yeah...i'm debating whether or not to swap cpu's.

Hard to say, if you had the actual stepping and date someone may be able to shed more lite on this. The Newcastle may need more voltage than the Venice, the NC usually do.

I took a shot and swapped them. The stepping is LBAZC forgot to get the actual date code though. So far it's maxed out at 2.64, but not stable. Right now i'm trying to get it stable with 1T command rate on my ram to make up for the loss of ram speed. It's pretty stable at around 2.55ghz, which is fine with me. It does run slightly hotter, about 4c higher than my venice even though the voltage is at 1.62v

there is one oddity i can't explain. usually there's a 10-12c diffrence between the motherboards cpu sensor and the on die sensor, this chip has a 1-3 degree diffrence at full load, and a 4-5 diffrence at idle. is that just because it naturally runs hotter?

it could be because both of them are heating each other?

Personally that happens on mine

probably. I just thought how bizzarre it was for the temperatures to be so close together when i was always used to a 10+ diffrence.
I'm hoping i can get it stable with this 1T timing. I'm 1 stick of corsair value select and a stick of random stuff. it says M&S on it. So far it's been running a half hour of prime. core temps never going higher than 58-60c. I think the ram timings cause the instablility last time. If this is stable for at least 12 hours i'll increase the fsb a mhz or two to find it's peak with this voltage. once i find that peak i might step up the voltage to 1.68v at that voltage it never peaks higher than 63-64c core temps

The RAM mix may cause difficulties and may not....
CPU-Z will give up there timings for a comparison of them.
That higher voltage, from what I recall is common for the NC!
Try just OCing with the DDR400.

the timings on each one are the same, so i don't think it'll hurt. i upped the fsb a little (235) and raised the voltage up to 1.68 again, then dropped the HT down to 3x to see if it's stable. I'm trying to break my OCD problem of having to have the cpu be on even numbers like 2.4 2.5 and so on. It's running at 2.58 right now. I'm hoping I can keep the 1T timing because that made a HUGE improvement on my superpi scores

I should update my rig, since I no longer have the DDR333 both are DDR400
so far it seems that dropping the HT down fixed the stability issues.

Im having problems with OC my NC I am at 2.6 but not really stable, but at 2.58 its stable and I put it at a higher voltage (cpu vcore) and ram voltage, but i cant get higher than 215 on my fsb for it to be stable

that seems to eb the newcastle limit. Mines the same way. 2.6 isn't stable enough for prime95 but it's stable for superpi 32m 2.55 is 100% stable though. 2.58 i think might be stable, but i haven't tested it much. what v-core are you using and what ram setting?
