Socket F mother board help

Thread Starter
IM building a new PC woo..
I was thinking about AMD Athlon 64 FX-74 3.0GHz Core, 2x 1MB Quad
and ATI PCI-E graphics card well 2 of them.
however they have a slot for the Exhaust and another slot for the card its self.
CAN any 1 suggest a mother board thats crossfire or both PCI-E slots run in dual mode at 16bit that will fit these cards.
DDR2 preferably running at 800mhz but i can find any that do that either.
iv looked around but socket F is all new to me
Does it matter if the board is SLI compatable?
the computer is for gaming and not a server if that makes a differance.
Thanks.

There aren't currently any AMD quad core 4x4 motherboards that support CrossFire. The only motherboard that supports dual graphics cards for Socket F is the L1N64, but that's SLi only.

Socket F, is a CPU socket with 1207 pins, designed by AMD for its Opteron line of CPU's. It's also used in AMD's current FX-74 (4x4) systems.

Doesn't that use ECC ram?

Of course, all modern server systems do.

There is no Socket F board that supports Crossfire?? LOL

AMD's fastest processors and no available motherboard for dual ATI graphics.... strange.

No CrossFire support was simply another nail in the FX-74's coffin. In order to use FX-74 you need a costly motherboard, expensive ECC RAM, two CPU's which use more power than Intel's Kentsfield cores, and an operateing system that supports physically seperate CPU's. AMD's upcoming Phenom's had better have more thought put into them if they intend to make them appeal to enthusiasts, that's for sure.

KIA PETE - I would highly recommend NOT purchasing the FX-74's. You are going to pay up the wazoo, have compatibility issues, waste a lot of energy, and you'll have to buy expensive components to go with it.

For comparable performance (actually much better) for 1/2 the cost, I'd go with a Core 2 Quad like the Q6600... or possibly the QX6700 or QX6800. The components you'll need to get a system running with one of these processors will be considerably less expensive, more reliable, and more compatible with software/apps - and with more future upgrade possibilities.

Don't do it. You know, any of it. If you absolutely have to build a quad core system this week go with a q6600 and 8800's for the video.
