My "current gen" conversion...

Thread Starter
Well, not mine, but I'm making it happen.

My uncle has tapes. Lots of tapes. As in cassettes, music, not tapes as in movies or anything. About 50-60 in total.

He bought a new truck and it doesn't have a cassette player in it, so instead of him going out and buying a cassette player, I convinced him to convert them to CD. (Or have me do it for him for a small price... -- if any blank CDs are left over, he has to let me have them, AND he has to feed me afterwards )

Anywho, -- what would be the most simple way to do it? Stay easy on the bank too, please.

I know a way! Get a RCA to Mini 1/8' adapter and plug it into your line in going from the RCA out of the Cassette Player. Depending on how old the player is, you might need a Phono Pre-Amp.

*waits*

BTW -- I'm aware I can just get a cassette player that has AUX (red and white cables) and get a converter to the "MIC IN" port on his computer, but I'm wondering more about software. (That detects when one song ends, enhances quality if possible, EQ settings, etc.)

Any easier way to do it hardware-wise would be nice to know though, too.

*edit*
Posted before I could post that.

1- Tape player with RCA outputs

2- Soundcard with RCA inputs

3- Record.

It is the ONLY way I have got clean sound. Minijacks never worked for me.. My soundcard has RCA- Audigy 2 Za Platinum (Pro)- But you can go cheaper.. (Creative with 5 1/4" box or external..)

EDIT: Sorry.. Don't know anything about software...

Ouch, didn't think about sound card. He's got onboard pre-built Compaq (Socket A generation) and it probably would suck at doing it. >_<

Link to a sound card with RCA inputs/"box" ? I've never seen one.

Sony Sound Forge?

I have RCA inputs on my Bay I/O Device for my X-Fi. Also how old are these cassettes? I also attempted to do this once and the Cassettes were ~20 years old and they turned out to be all magnetized from age.

Cassettes are 15-25 years old I'm guessing. They all work fine and he keeps care of 'em (storage container in closet, always in cases.) He still listens to them a lot when he's at home, so near all of them we know work.

Sony Sound Forge looks great, but not for $300 USD. >_<

The creative front port is what I meant by box.... here:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mul...gy2.html#sect1

The front ports. The red and white RCA jacks..

I have the platinum PRO.. External box.

The X-fi models with the breakout boxes (Front panels) also have RCA.. Expensive tho, and I personally dislike em (Drivers..)

This card is JUST RCA...

This is a USB card for podcasting- Has a XLR (Microphone) and RCA inputs.

I like Audacity.. Maybe it can do what you want with plugins....
