Im rebuilding my friends HP AM2 system with DDR 400 ram and a 7600GT PCI-E, but the HP board is garbage. What is a good but cheap board that supports:
- PCI Express x16
- DDR 400 Ram
- Socket AM2

Thanks!

AM2 can't support DDR, because part of it's asskickery comes from an onboard DDR2 controller that allows for unbuffered DDR2 paging.

I have no clue what that means, but it's supposed to be good?

check the motherboard specifications, chances are it's mATX which limits your upgrades to the smaller boards. my hp is mATX, if he wants the option to go dual gpu, or wants the most popular boards, he should get a cheap ATX case, and ATX mobo.

Of course.

But, his HP system uses AM2 AND DDR400.

Very rare, I know. HP most likely did this in order to make money off of their "proprietary" oem parts

Hm, well at least I know that no such board exists now.. thank you!

The nForce 570 doesn't support DDR, no AM2 motherboard available from retail does. You're confuseing the original socket 940 with AM2. Socket 940 has same amount of pins as AM2 and is 184-pin DDR compatible, but an older socket 940 server CPU wont fit into a standard AM2 motherboard as the pins are different, and vice versa.
