I've opened my eyes...

Thread Starter
Hi guys (users of AMD specially) you know...i use to be an Intel fan since the release of Pentium 4 until one month ago when i realized how great are the Athlons 64 X2 or Opterons, or Athlons FX, or maybe Duron! remembering those days...u know...i think it's silly because i use to hate AMD because of processors' names...but now i realize how supperior was AMD before C2Ds and i'm waiting for AMD to be AMD (as seen on i don't remember whose sigh) and release AM3 and HyperTransport3...do you know when it's launched? also i was thinking that getting an X2 wouldn't be a bad idea...so i hear your suggestions (motherboard and memory also)

The current socket, likely MB/Chipset dependant will be able to support some of the quad cores which will be AM2+ or AM2 and AM3 compatible. The true AM3 will only support DDR3.

Your motherboard utilises the 965 chipset, which is Core 2 compatible. With that in mind you'd be daft to consider switching to an AMD K8 based system. Just get the best Core 2 CPU and more RAM if you really intend to upgrade.

Indeed. A C2D would be much better for you, that way you only buy a new processor and plug it in. Otherwise you'll have to buy a new mobo, cpu, and also reinstall windows.
Just wait another month untill the price drop and you'll have a much better proc than what any AMD can offer you. Especially when you overclock it

Well yeah...a C2D will be the best choice...but do you think AM3 (named Phenom FX) will beat C2D?

I was kind of in the same boat as you allways prefered AMD but some times intel was the cheaper or more powerful option at the time.
iv built loads of PC's each 1 eventually has been run to the ground.
all my nvidia cards have broken Intel mobo's and processors die on me.
each time if the part is ATI or AMD its lasted and worked far better the anything Intel has thrown out the PC I’m running now is a ****tail of old computers till I build me new 1..
You are no longer on the dark side
