Connect fan LED to HDD LED for flashing fan?

Thread Starter
I wanted to know how I could connect my LED fan to my HDD LED so that my fan flashes like HDD LED when its being accessed. I THINK I know how to do it, but just wanted to check to be sure.

How is to solder (or connect anyways) your hdd led wires to your fans led contacts.

But aren't those burried DEEEEEP inside your fan

And anyways i'm not sure if you're mobo's just going to take it (not that it'll damage something important, but the led in your fan consumes a lot more power then your hdd led)

True. Would there be a way to power the fan from the PSU and just let the HDD status LED control weather or not the fan LED is on or off?!

You would have to reroute the contacts.

Meaning breaking open your fan.

Checking how your les connected.
Disconnect it from the same pins as the motor and hook it up to the hdd led.

Meaning you will have to open up your fan and that almost always kills it.

Otherways your fan would only start turning when your hdd led should be on.
Wich would defeat the purpose of cooling.

My guess it's easier just buying a led in the desired color and placing it behind your fan.

Making it brighter when your hdd led should be on.

Are you talking about an IDE Drive?

If so try the following: assuming you're talking about LEDs.

lemme try to find a link for you. i saw some fans once advertised as having separate leads for the LEDs and fan motor. that way you can lower the fan speed without dimming your LEDs. it would probably work with that type of fan.

AC Ryan Blackfire fans have seperate power terminals for their LED's and the fan motor.
http://www.acryan.com/_fan/index.shtml

Im not sure what the power consumtion on the LED's are though.

Dont mobo headers only give out abt 3V?
