HD555 vs HD595 - Page 2

I have a set of 595s, love em. They got better with age, too. I have had them for a solid 2.5 years and they just get better and better. Wonderful for music, and pretty darn great for gaming too.

Yeah I heard they get better once they're burnt in for around 200 hours. I'll have to do that whenever I get my 555 or 595.

hmm... sometimes I wish people wouldn't post if they don't know what they're talking about...

1. the HD555/595's are open, but they are not that open. They won't leak a ton. So on low or medium volumes someone next to you would only be able to hear if the surroundings were quiet.
2. I have heard the HD555's and owned the HD595's. I would say the 555's are about 90-95% what the 595's are. If you are just starting out you'll be fine with the 555's. but I would spend the extra $80 if I were you... of course I have a headphone amp that is worth 10x that price difference so you can take my thoughts w/ a grain of salt since you probably won't be using them on quite as good of a source/amp
3. for mp3/portable use the HD555/595's are good, but there are better options. If you plan to get one pair of cans and use them for everything then they are a great choice, but if they will primarily be for portable use than take a look at AKG k81dj, Koss ksc75, Grado sr60, akg k171s
4. Beyer DT770's are not better than Senn HD555/595's for what the OP wants. Whoever suggested them has not listened to music on both... the 770's do not sound near as good. They are closed, offer more isolation, but have recessed mids and lots of bass. They are no where near as neutral as the Senns. However, if you are going to use them for gaming... it doesn't get a whole lot better than the 770's.
5. You can save a lot of $ by buying used... HD555's typically go for around $75, Hd595's for $125
6. You will get some benefit form a good headphone amp. Look at my thread

Thanks a lot soloz,

I plan on using these for music and maybe movies but not for gaming. Can I have a link to your thread?

If I remember correctly, you have Siberias? The 555s/595s are going to be miles better than those for gaming.

You are going to have a big problem with that. I also have a creative zen vision M as you do.

1.The HD595's are way TO BIG to wear outside. Trust me

2.The ZVM is to underpowered to power those beast of headphones.
I play guitar. So here is what i do. Plug the SENN's into my ZVM
put one ear cut a bit away from my ear and play guitar there for i can
hear the amp. It is impossible to do with the Senns though so i use my craptastic pannasonics. The ZVM is to underpowered you will have to buy and an amp for portable use but my x-fi drives them well that is why i dont' use speakers on my pc but my senns
