Will RAID 0 + a "One Touch Backup" work?

Thread Starter
I am building a new box and need advice on the HDD setup for it. Basically, I want data security and performance combined and I have an idea, but I'm not sure if it will work.

I'd like to apply RAID 0 to 2 WD Caviar 250GB 16MB HDDs and then implement a 500GB external HDD "One Touch Backup" setup. (I dont have enough ports on the MoBo for a RAID 0+1 setup)

I know how RAID works and I've got a basic understanding of external backups, but I dont have enough experience to know whether or not this setup will have any complications.

Does anyone have advice/experience/ideas for this type of setup?

Will there be any complications for a RAIDed setup going to a single HDD external backup?

Will work fine. Just remember to actually make the backups!

constantly backing up the drives will wear out all the drives.. it WILL significantly reduce the life of the drives (and increase fail chances)

2 things:

If you want to create an entire back of RAID array, use imaging software.

If you want to just create backups of your essential data, use simple software like MS Backup or a good one is Karens Replicator.

**I just read the entire subject

Drives are meant to be used? So I don't see why a weekly backup or two would affect them any more than simply using them?
