Yup, they are trying to make it suck I swear! I think they will eventually add 64bit into it, they aren't THAT stupid.

I only installed CSS, how is HL2 going if it is 64bit? Is it teh secks?

i don't get it. i play all Source games on XP MCE 32-bit and i don't see how it could get smoother than it already is. is this something i have to see to believe? i mean, i'm averaging 150+ fps outside in CSS and over 100 fps in the HL games. 30 extra frames won't do anything for me. is there something else you can describe that really makes the game smoother?

Hell yeah. HL2 is definately ALOT smoother in 64. My FPS wasnt that bad in 32 with everything turned up..I use to get slight stutters. However now my FPS has definately increased .

Well even if the game application isnt able to address at 64bit then remember that the OS and more to the point Drivers are 64bit capable. Thus can address more information at any given time than 32bit. I think the overall extra addressing power is the cause for increased performance.

I've been on x64 windows as my primary OS ever since xp x64 came out, and I will have to say gaming is so much better on x64.

You got to try FarCry if you haven't enterprise, the x64 version is so much better lol.

i still don't get it. if i'm already getting 100+ fps with no stutters or hiccups, i wouldn't notice any difference at all if i installed a 64-bit OS, right?

EDIT: if your OS can suddenly make Stalker a smooth game, i'm all over it i don't have issues with Source games though.

No if you are running a 100FPS its not noticeable to your eye. However to a benchmark then yes its noticeable.

Been playing lost colony, HL2, and CSS with vista 64 and it is great. I use to have problems with XP32bit when playing css and hl2. I mean I got good fps but the game would stuter or I would have to reload css because of the chrome cars and video issues sometimes.

With my system at 4.0ghz ram 500mhz and vid card at 600/830 I get I think it was 236fps doing the css stress test.

That is assuming the 100FPS is the minimum, not average. You can have 100 FPS average and have it dip lower then 60, which i consider lag.

Oh yeah I slightly remember FarCry taking like 25 mins to load the first time, but I had been beta testing Vista for over a year before it's release so it might have been a beta build and that issue has been sorted. If not, just go make a sandwich while it loads the first time lol.

okay, i have a big question now. please be completely honest and forthcoming, because i will base my next purchase on what you guys tell me. if i make Vista 64-bit my next OS, will i have trouble with drivers or compatibility for any of my hardware and/or older programs and games?
