Can anyone help me overclock?

Thread Starter
I have tried many times, but I haven't come out with a good stable overclock. I have read many overclocking guides, but no good overclocks. Can someone talk to me throught (removed) MSN? I'm thanks guys, I really want to get my rig going good.

BTW, what I really think my problem is, is my crappy RAM. I think the main reason why I can't do good overclocks is that I don't know how to setup my RAM I.E. Tref, it kicks my butt all day long.

if you were to look for it, there is an excellent guide to OCing with AMDs, crappy ram can be toned down by running a deeper multiplier, which you should be doing anyways to find max potential of your mobo and CPU before going to your rams maximum. Also, make sure you HTT is lowered from auto, most likely 5x to like 4x or 3x. sounds like the general rule of thumb is to keep it as close to 1000mhz as possible, and avoid going over if possible.

You have one of the best boards for OCing, just about anything is adjustable in the bios of a DFI from what ive read.

There are other things such as long PCI slot frequencies, slightly upping PCIx slots etc... Im no pro, so I shouldnt give much advice beyond what I have, I hope this helps. feel free to PM me with any other questions

by deeper multi, you meen like a lower multi or higher? I have been trying to find the max of my proc right now, but when I mess with the divider, like bring it down to 1/2, it isn't bootable, but when I put the tref on auto it boots fine. Thanks for replying man, I know everyone that looks at this thread is saying, i'm not going to bother with him if he doesn't look at the guide.

The DFI can be difficult for beginner's cuz there is so many options in your bios. If you think it's your ram set all of the timings to auto and run the ram on the 166 divider. Bump up your cpu voltage to around 1.45v and start up on the HTT/FSB/CPU CLOCK option from there. some of the X2"s on 939 don't OC very well while other's can rock it. BTW are you running 4 x 512 or 2 x 1024 for ram. If your running 4 x 512 set your command rate to 2T from 1T.

Yea that's what I said 2T on 4 sticks. Anywase You might try removing 2 sticks and overclocking on just 2 sticks to see if you can isolate that as the problem. You probably won't get 4 x 512 much past their rated speed and timings due to the AMD cpu controller not being able to deal with 4 full slots very well.

ohh, i'm sorry I read that wrong, my bad. But will a good overclocked rig on 1gig of RAM run better than a stock rig on 2 gig's of RAM? I really want a good set of ram, I think I will ask for some for christmas. But yeah, 1 gig of RAM i'm not happy about, but I will try it.

That would depend on how much farther you could OC with 2 x 512 and what you use your PC for. Anywase I'd want to run all my ram sticks as well. I was only suggesting to try overclocking with 2 sticks just to be certain that it was the extra ram holding you back. If you can isolate the problem we could figure out how to deal with it and get you up and running.
