c2d 6420 oc'd post

Thread Starter
I just oc'd this today, and after quite a few hours have found that I can only oc this to 2.5ghz on the stock cooling. This is a friends comp and I'm not worried about getting it through the roof, I just wanted to oc as much as I could on the stock cooling. I'm running ddr2-800 (HZ's if you care) at stock 4-4-4-12 and 2.0 volts (their stock settings) and just wanted to see if anyone else is running a similar setup and has got past 2.5. I ran TAT to test temps before even attempting stability tests and this box will get up to 57-60 degrees after 15 minutes and stabilize there, so I figured this was it. I had first got it up to 3.2ghz but it took a whooping 20 seconds to get over 60 degrees on the cores in TAT. I want to keep this very safe considering it's not mine and I'm not here to constantly monitor temps, ect. BUt like I said if you have a 6420 oc'd I'd like to see your numbers with stock cooling or without. If spending 50 bucks on cooling would get this to 3.5 (^^) then maybe I'd talk my friend into it, as if he hasn't spent enough already. System has the 2x1gb of HZ, 8800gts 640mb, p5k deluxe and twin 320gb 7200.10's.

try undervolting and overclocking - I got my L709A at 3.2ghz stable with only a mere 1.26v

I had 3.4ghz @ 1.36v, 3.5ghz @ 1.41v, and 3.7ghz @ 1.50v

My E6420 takes 1.5v at 3.4ghz to be stable for 6+ hours. High 50's max temps with the original Big Typhoon and stock fan.

With stock cooling i could only get to 2.8ghz and keep sub 60 temps. I had everything set on Auto up until 3.0ghz. 2.8 was fine on Auto settings. 3.0 didnt work. So i dont know what voltage i was at.

Is that your Teg? Looks clean. I have a red 94 VTEC Prelude, but im about to sell it for a black 93 Z28 M6.

can the OCN admins put something on the sign-up page that automatically redirects people to their User CP and forces them to fill in their system specs?
