What is the best memory for Q6600 O'Clocking? Thinking of Corsair

Thread Starter
Decided on Asus P5K Deluxe WIfi board
Q6600 Quad Core w Go Stepping
Asus 8600 GTS/G/HTDP256
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler
HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000 1TB

Corsair memory - TWIN2X2048-8500C5D 2GB Kit DDR2-1066 PC2-8500
is $193 with $40.00 rebate wondering if this is worth it or if someone has a better recommendation for this rig with 4GB? Tonight is the last night at Zipzoom for this deal so input would be much appreciated.

Check these out!

I bought 2 sets (4gigs) but cannot comment on the performance yet, cause I do not have my pc built. But they look good on paper. They have got the Micron D9 chips and Brainpower PCB!!

This is better: G.SKILL 2GBHZ

Dang!! I knew that would happen bought the Mushkin and the G.skill would drop in price! I would go with the G.Skill since it is similar in price now. I bought the Muskin because it was a lot cheaper than the BHZ's at the time.

I had ddr500 G.Skill BHZ, best memory I have ever used. I think the Muskins will be a good set as well.

if a 1:1 ratio is your goal, you don't need good overclockers like the HZ's. these G.Skills were cheaper last week, but they should still be considered. if you're going to run it at its rated speed, these have great timings. if you're going to run a divider, then this whole post of mine is pointless. get the HZ's.

MrBungle is dead on. Hopefully your goal will be doing a 1:1 ratio, and with ddr2 800 that would put you at 3.6ghz (9 X 400), and you won't be going any higher than that with air cooling. Just get some nice cheap low latency ddr2 800.

I'd go with G.Skill! I got this 2 Gig Pack:

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820231065

And I love it. Overclocked my Quad 6600 perfectly, runs fast, try to keep them at 1:1 with whatever you are running, but you will love them. And dont just believe me, go look at the review on newegg. 210 Reviews and the 5 rating has a 92%, never seen anything else get that high of a positive review

Just to be different than everyone else I like to recommend Crucial Ballistixs. You can get the PC2-6400 version for about the same price as the G.skillz. One of the factors people look at for overclocking memory is that the chips on the RAM are the micron D9 chips. The G.Skillz HZ's have em and so do the crucial ballistixs (crucial is a subsidiary micron FYI). Here is a link to the site I used when picking out my RAM. It has a listing of the chips used on different types of RAM.
