If you have a 7800gt right now, that's not much of an upgrade...Look around for an 8800gts or x1950xt. The 256mb should be enough for that resolution

The 7800GT is good, but is not in the same league as the X1950XT.
If you want to upgrade, get the X1950XT 256.

X1950XT. I have the x1950 256 mb, and im satisfied except for the x1950xt would have been alot better to get, i almost went with the 512mb version, but im sure there would be no performance increases over the 256, that would be highly noticable anyway. go with the 1950XT
Meh.

I don't know anything about the X1950Pro 512. But I know that at STOCK, my card gets 60FPS in Quake 4 on Ultra, 8xAA, 1440 x 900, even though the game explicitly states it uses 500+ megs, people forget computers have RAM, and good, fast RAM with tight timings can respond to a card's needs just as fast as the card's onboard memory in some cases.

So after Quake 4 Ultra Mode devours your onboard 256, oh, and it will, it will page to your RAM. The consequence? Minor tearing in some cinematic scenes, like the USS Hannibal flying in during the intro. Other than that, smooth as glass, at 60FPS (d3 engine max).

Oblivion runs fine on max settings with HDR on.

Prey? Max settings, 60FPS, 8x AA.

And that is at STOCK. Overclocking my card makes it better, but it already does so well I don't see a difference in these games, none of them really push it.

And the X1950Pro is a voltage-starved card that has no room for overclocking. The XT is the 3600+ of ATi cards, overclocking wise.

See my sig? That's me, a n00b, overclocking on ATItool with stock cooling.

I vote for the XT all the way.
