New build for parents...

Thread Starter
Hi there, I am building a new computer for my parents. They use the computer for selling on ebay which entails photo editing and use of FTP, etc...
I plan on the following system and I plan on overclocking a decent amount (would you suggest that? If so could you suggest a cheap but good HS?). My overall budget including OS, aftermarket fans etc... is $600. Constructive criticism suggestions, and questions are welcomed with open arms.

Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119106

Digital Versatile Disc burner/reader combo drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106049

Hard Disk Drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144415

Graphics Processing Unit - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130098

Power Supply Unit - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817189005 (too good??)

Random Access Memory - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065

Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128012

Central Processing Unit - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115016

If you don't think I should overclock, maybe I should skimp on a few parts (mobo, psu, ram,) and get a better cpu??

I don't know how extreme of an overclock is really necessary for the application this system will be used in. Simple Ebay level photo editing will not require a bleeding edge system by any means. Therefore if you are trying to save money, it may be better to just overclock to as high as you can on the stock HSF, which will still be a decent amount. Other than that, looks pretty good, my only thought is that the G.skill may not be completely necessary unless you do decide to go with an extreme overclock, just another area you may be able to save some money in.

Thats a pretty good setup. With the parts you listed the build will come out to be around $700 shipped which is a little more than you specified in your budget. If they are just going to use this rig for listing on ebay (and I specify IF) you could cut back quite a bit. I know that you said they will be doing some picture editing, and FTP, but those two things arent super intense resource hogging programs heres what I would do.

Case- GOOD
CD Drive- GOOD
HD- Good (may need more ?)
PSU- A good brand 300W or more will do.
RAM- good choice, but a little more than they need
MOBO- GOOD
CPU- Again a good choice, but more than they need

I will look for PSU, RAM, and CPU and get back to you.

Also it wont be nessesary to OC, but you can if you want. Ill look for a good cheap cooler too.

You could probably go a little lower on the cpu and go a little higher on the gpu? Then maybe spend a little less on the memory.

Alright...I was thinking for sure I want them to have good ram. And if by chance they need more speed they can do a high (aftermarket hsf) overclock and get a little more out of it.
But I guess i will just OC as much as I can with the stock hsf.
If im not going to do that much overclocking though do I really need that good of a board?
What about this ram? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098

Oh and btw I just want to double check with yall, is this system completly compatible with the current parts? (almost 100% sure it is, but just want to double check)

Well they don't need much graphical processing power...just something other than stock for the most part. Isn't 2.13 ghz already kinda slow (and yes I am taking into account the 9 ops/cycl)?
