8800GTS 500MHz vrs 576MHz

Thread Starter
I noticed I could save a few bucks(very few...but still) and gain a mail rebate if I were to get a 8800GTS 320MB with a stock core of 500 instead of the eVGA "Super Clocked" version with a stock core of 576MHz.

Every thing else looks the same, and since I tend to overclock every thing from my car to my tube socks I figured why not save the dough...

I looked around and it looks like they both hit the same wall on their overclocks...but then I started to think.

Does the card with the higher stock core clock have a better cooler? It will probally be a while till I pipe it into my water loop. Plus I figured the newer moddle might actually have some re-engineering done on it making it slightly better as well...though most likely they just turned up the clock since they realized they could.

No, the EVGA Superclock has the stock cooler. The ACS3 has the nice big cooler.
Once again...

yea just get the regular 320mb one, I have the sameone and surpass the superclocked version easily by overclocking. On the stock cooler i can reach 650 core and 950 memory fine with no artifacts. My temps idle at 52 C and reach 60 C with the stock fan on 100%. Also take to account that my case has 4 fans running full blast also so it might right a little hotter/cooler in your case. hope it helped!

Don't know if the coolers on XXX/OC/KO editions differ from the stock versions, mines a XFX it easily clocks up to 600/900 (did not try higher yet) no problems...but maybe the memory is a little better on the fast editions

Aren't the overclocked versions handpicked to be able to handle higher clock speeds?
