And if you are serious about gaming, a quad core will more than likely improve performance in the future. Right now - not so much... there aren't very many games that can utilize all 4 cores. But slowly, developers will put to use all the cores to enhance our gaming experiences.

Crysis for Example:
Quote:
Crysis will dynamically utilize all processing threads available. Meaning quad-core processors will be supported.
(From Crysis Online).

So it's kind of up to the user whether or not they want to upgrade at this point.

Read up on it more and you'll find out that the extra cores can only be used to help with a second video card driver or sound card. Therefore, the performance difference is negligible.

That's the point exactly...wait. Again, hardware is far ahead of software and it has to be that way. If a software developer designed a game to take advantage of the fastest, state of the art equipment, it is marketing to such a small audience that it wouldn't be lucrative. A game has to be playable (and look good) with dated machines in order to be successful. I agree with your "wait" statement, but not for software......wait for hardware purchases. If you're going to wait, why spend the money now when the hardware cost is at its peak?

Pretty soon? What exactly does that mean? Are you stating that games designed for quad core will be released before the next generation of quad core cpus? And are these games going to be unplayable on a higher clocked dual core? If so, I'd like to make a gentlemen's bet

Explain the term bottleneck specifically relating to a desktop computer and why bottlenecking an 8800gts is something to be avoided at all costs.

I meant the Penryn, exactly...

and i raised this question coz i came to know that E6700 and Q6600 are almost same price now...So is it better to keep higher clocked Dual Core or get a lower clocked Quad Core and believe me, i will be upgrading again in a matter of 0.5-1 years time...

how about this. since you seem to have some money burning a hole in your pocket and you have upgrade fever right now, consider getting a nice water cooling setup for your current machine. it will allow you to overclock your E6700 further and better realize its potential.

agreed. i don't think more RAM would do anything unless you're making movies on it or doing some other professional-grade task.
