E6700 + Memory Help

Thread Starter
Hello, I'd just like a bit of advice as I am finding this overclocking malarkey a bit confusing. I'm asking for help because my system seems a bit slower since I've overclocked it and by that I mean it appears to be laggier. I've turned off spread spectrum and things

I so far overclocked my PC to these stats with a bit of manual tweaking but it seems slightly slower since I've done this. Any reason why? I've just completed a 12 hour Stress test and it seemed fine although now I am getting the random "BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER" BSOD.

Stock Settings:

CPU Core: 2670 MHz
FSB: 1068 MHz
Memory: 534 MHz

Overclock Settings:

CPU Core: 2930 MHz
FSB: 1172 MHz
Memory: 586 MHz

I'm a little confused about a few options. For example, in voltage control, what should I set for DRAM, CPU Termination Voltage (1.25V -OR- 1.35V only options - currently at 1.25V), VCore Voltage - I've set this to 1.3500V - is this good/bad?

Now for memory timings, I have so many options!

T(CAS), T(RCD), T(RP), T(RAS), T(RC) & Address Mode (OPTIONS being: 1 clock -OR- 2 clock)

According to CPUz this is my memory timings:

Timings table
Frequency (MHz)270400
CAS#4.05.0
RAS# to CAS# delay45
RAS# Precharge45
TRAS1318
TRC1522

Thanks for any help guys.

just lower x and raise fsb you migh need to bump v-core up,set memory at 1:1 try that,i just went 400x8 without uping only v-c one notch but thats me,everyones chip is different so watch temps for sure

Can I just get clarification on this:

I have a FSB(QDR) of e.g. 1066 which means 266 FSB? That means that my memory should then be 266 * 3 = 798 for the 1:1 ratio correct? (forget correcting me on the technicalities or the wrong terms, I just want to grasp the FSB & memory overclocking parts).

Any help with the memory timings too? As in what I should aim for with regards to all the options I have to set?

What DRAM voltage is recommended? How do I check what the default is as its set to Auto?

Thanks

In order to run your ram in a 1:1 configuration with a stock 266FSB, you'll need to set it to DDR2-533 (double data rate 266*2 = 533). Once you've set it in a 1:1 configuration, it will scale appropriately (FSB 300, DDR2-600).

As for the memory voltage, I have the CAS5 XMS2 ram from Corsair, and I've set mine to 5-5-5-15 2T @ 2.1v. Fairly loose timings, but it allows me to figure out my cpu's max clock, and then work on tightening up the ram.

You are running your memory over 200mhz faster than its stock speed. My guess is it does not have enough voltage to operate correctly. Also, You DO NOT want to run your ram at 266mhz...you wan to run it at 400mhz or higher...just with 2.0v..it is very good memory, capable of very high speeds..it just needs some more juice.

As for your CPU vcore..1.35 should be fine for ~2.9ghz.
--------------------

In your BIOS, set your RAM timings and voltages to the following:

4-4-4-12-4-35-9-9-9-9, using 2.0-2.1v

That should help a whole bunch. You need to make sure and run MemTest to check for RAM errors, that could potentially corrupt your windows install.

NO...266mhz FSB = 1066mhz....266mhz RAM = 533mhz effective speed.

RAM *2 = effective clock speed...FSB *4= effective clock speed.

Thanks for the help both of you!! I understand things a lot better now I'll post back my final stable results soon if you're interested or incase anyone finds this thread useful.

@CL3P20: what I don't understand is ---> 4-35-9-9-9-9 <--- I can only set 4-4-4-12 and then a value of either 1T or 2T in motherboard.

Btw, is it me or have I am suffering? 3DMark06 gave me a score of around 3000! I have nVidia ForceWare 158.24 and I have uninstalled and reinstalled with these drivers!

I don't think I've seen anyone with a Core2Duo setup run a 1T on their RAM. Set it to 2T and forget it.

As for the benchmark scores...open up CPU-Z, and look in the tabs for PCI-E Link. It should read 16x actual, 16x max. If it says 1x then 16x, you need to go back into the BIOS and set your PCI frequency to 33.33, and your PCI-E frequency to 100.

MAJOR PROBLEM::::::::::

CPU-z only reports my CPU speed as 1600.1MHz (Core#0) and says the Multiplier is x6.0. I flashed my BIOS and reverted my settings to the default on setup so all my MHz are back to stock. WHAT DO I DO?! :OOOOOOO
