At 2.6Ghz I can boot to windows but I get rounding errors with prime95 but 2.7 is the highest on suicide
post #33 of 42
how does it run if you set it to 2.58ghz?
(yeah, the stepping would help. I forgot about that)

To answer your QUESTION in a simple response, I'd say.
YES.
And here's a whole thread on here about that ^_^
http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...long-term.html

All in all. YES, it has been evident.
And electronic science (as evident in OTHER.. less complicated perhaps, integrated circuits) agree with the laments...

About your prob though - The fact that you burnt in the OC with orthos and a few games previously, and was stable, and NOW, ISNT.. but is at a lower speed, is quite indicative of the said, if I may say so myself.

Are you SURE the temps were the same? - heat affects stability a great deal at times. (your temps are pretty awsome BTW).

I would suggest just making sure you have the EXACT SAME system settings., or for that matter (as a second step/test).. DEFAULT settings.
EVERYTHING, from bios settings, to drivers, to your dang GPU OC.
If they're all the same as previous, but you cant get your previous 2.6 OC - then, settle with the 2.5 ( ).
And hope the system doesnt become unstable again.

Good luck.

Seems to me that your system has no more room to overclock. There are so many things that come in play when overclocking, it will be hard to determen what keeps you from running 2600+ again.
Besides, if you don't have a "golden chip" it is pretty much the best one can pull out of the AMD 64's, though i've occasionally seen speeds up to 2.8.

My advise, if you can get it stable at say 2.5, keep it that way. It will generate less heat and reduce the chances of rebooting or freezing up your system.

2.6 IS a very fair OC.

Only like the mobile bartons ect..

make it up in the 2.8 range.

Accordingly. 2.5 is pretty decent.

I've given up on the 2.6 100% stable oc on my system, it takes too many volts to even begin to make it stable. it'll run 2.55 at 1.62v which is perfectly fine with me. So far, it's been prime stable for 8 hours with the ram timings at 1T 2.5-3-3-5 where the stock timings were 2T 2.5-3-3-8 haha. Go value ram. but they're also running 182mhz (i did it to hopefully make up for the 20mhz loss in speed

Apparently, on AMDgeeks, my system has gotten a pretty good OC
