Racing games: t3h rage!

Imagine this.

You're playing Halo. You are about to snipe someone flying through the air out of a warthog, for the absolute leet joy of snapping their neck with an antimatter bullet before they hit the ground, and realize the peril of the natural force of gravity, thus performing a killsteal from god himself. You smile and click. Suddenly, you're looking at your own body. Blue, and yet red with blood. Another Spartan steps on your body and grabs your sniper rifle, and he begins to rattle off your precious sniping bullets, those ones you swore would each take a life of their own. Rage fills your blood, as you notice some n00b melee/teamkilled you from behind to grab your sniper rifle, that surgically precise tool of death, just to rattle smoking shots at other noobs who eventually will just take him out with a grenade.

Minutes later, the tables have turned, and you see this noob approach your recently aquired warthog. You see him stop suddenly, indicating he is typing.

"LAWLZ LEMME GET INTO TEH GUN3R SEET"

He wants into your Warthog. How precious. But, maybe, your Warthog, wants into him. You slam down the "w" key and run his sorry ass over. As his body succumbs to ragdoll physics and flies through the air, you can see the expression on his face, in your mind, and you taste the sweet taste of pwnz0rship.

Owned.

Didn't that just chill your blood?

Now imagine this. You're racing, in some random racing game. You're toe-to-toe with some kid in California. His annoying voice rattles in your mind through your headset. Suddenly, some ass hits you from the side. Your car strafes. ****, cars don't strafe!

At over 100 miles per hour, you slam into a building that is now in your way, since you've lost the ability to turn at your discretion. Your death is intense, and you will not respawn. Rage fills your blood, your veins stretch barely containing the pressure. You want death. You want blood. You want to squeeze someone's neck it stops intaking your air. But it never comes. Just another game in three minutes when it's all over, where you'll be forced to do nothing but try to go faster than these noobs. If it happens again, the rage just builds. Eventually, won't you explode?

You know, I think I've felt more rage in racing games than any other game. I mean, at least shooters give you the releif of finally blowing holes in your opponent, but racing, you just bottle it up and bottle it up, there's no great release in passing someone. You never get satisfaction. You never get the thrill of a killing spree, really.

Never in my PC, or console gaming life, have I ever been as enraged as I was when I played the last level of Test Drive.

I mean come on. He had a ****ing VIPER. The fastest car besides it handled like a flying peice of styrofoam. That game, that level, actually caused me to punch a hole in my wall. I've never gotten close to that angry over a challenging deathmatch in Halo, or FEAR, or even the hacker-ridden Quake 3.

Discuss.

P.S.

Rereading my mini-story about Halo actually chilled my blood. Damn I have talent!

I think RTS games, played right, can be just as exhilarating and non-rage-filled as good shooters. RTS always gives you a chance.

Even when a NOD commander rolls your base over with an unholy number of scorps, it's still exhilarating to send shockwave artillary, airstrikes, and an ion cannon to his base just before you are wiped off the map. It gives you the feeling of flipping him off, as you fall backwards to your death.

The point of this thread is that I realized that racing games are the only games that I ever truly get pissed at. FPS and RTS games always offer the satisfaction of cold-blooded murder. Redemption.

I go to LAN parties frequently, taking this rig with me. Console LAN parties aren't fun for me, for some reason. But yeah. If someone pwns me, I WANT to hit them, but I don't out of respect. But if someone teamkills me on purpose, or gives away my position in COD, I will get out of my chair and punch them.

I've followed RTS games ever since I was a wee child playing Dune II. I've followed C&C religiously. I love Tibwars for online play, and still even play Red Alert 2 online frequently. I've been trained. I used to play StarCraft on battle.net but it's impossible to be good with Koreans who accept it as their god.

You should get Flatout2 . If people really grind your gears that much (see what I did there ), you can force them into a wall at high speed which should in most cases with enough speed wreck their vehicle. Or servelly damage thier car so much so they can't catch up. Those are dirty tactics though.
