This may sound wierd, but I once had a hard drive start making some wierd nioses on me as well. I swapped it out into another HDDless comp and no wierd noises. Turns out my CPU was pretty much dead (well, error crazy) and was making my HDD make the funny noises. To this day this still makes no sense to me whatsoever, but it happened. Replaced the CPU, and all was good. That was years ago and the drive is still in operation in my 754 rig. The drive actually came out of a Dell Pentium III system. Been a good drive really. I think I may have got my first sign of death the other day though, when I noticed a BSOD and ran an Orthos test for a few days just to be sure, and Orthos had no problems whatsoever.

yeah im not so sure if it is just like this normally and since its a big drive it makes the click noise while spinning up. It did make a tiny screech once and thats what scares me the most compared to the clicks but its been running 24 hours and since I defragged I haven't heard a screech and I mostly hear it when xferring 10+gigs of files. I have an old IDE drive that makes a really loud double click noise and sometimes isn't detected by the computer on my old rig, but thats a really different click to what I hear on this new drive. I have my data backed up , and I will see how it goes over time and try to defrag it once every couple weeks. Thanks for advice and help everybody =]

run a detailed test; do you have SMART enabled? that will allow you to monitor the drive in further detail and run some tests.
