Old HP, New Problem...

Thread Starter
My mom's friend had this old HP (HP Pavilion XL912) and she gave it to me, and i was playing on running linux on it. Well it looked ok, so i plugged it in, it booted up fine, i went into bios, then went to change the boot order, i changed the cd drive to the first, then saved and it restarted....after i did this, i never got it going again. It starts and everything but, there is nothing on the screen.

Can anyone help?

I'm willing to try anything.

Have you actually got a Linux install CD in the optical drive?

Make sure that you have your Primary IDE set to Master and your Secondary IDE to Slave.

no

the BOOT ORDER

You have to tell it to boot off the hard drive.

If you cannot get into the Bios Hit F8 on startup so you can get into the boot menu

If you're trying to install a Linux Distro you'll need a Linux installation CD in your optical drive and the jumpers would have to be set correctly.

If you're trying to change your settings back so that you can get back into Windows again, just enter your BIOS and set your primary boot device to HDD.

You can't even enter the BIOS? Try removeing the battery on your motherboard to revert all changes you've made in the BIOS back to factory defaults. Leave it out for two or three minutes, though be sure to disconnect your PC's plug from the mains when you do this.
