Changing my Ways

Thread Starter
Okay, so, right I now I have multiple PCs (I think... 3) and I was thinking about getting into consoles. After considering it and talking with my friends I think now, that I will become a PC Gamer. Instead of spending ~$800 on an Xbox 360 + Accessories I'm thinking of getting a high end graphics card (8800GTX or Ultra) and another 2GB of Ram (for a total of 4).

Secondly, I will sell my older, slower computers so I can spend more money and more time on this system.

What do you guys think?

Oh, and a list of good PC games would be nice. I only have Half Life: 2 and a Steam Account at the moment.

Dawn Of War, Far Cry, X3 Reunion, Doom 3, Quake 4, Prey....

There's loads of decent PC games to choose from.

Battlefield: 2, brilliant. That game looks amazing maxed out, especially because you have 16 soldiers fighting, some in Jets, some in Tanks, a few of them in a Helicopter, and you are attacking from an Aircraft Carrier...

I don't like 2142, though. Too Transformers for my taste.

F.E.A.R. and Doom 3 sound excellent. A good way to test my 8800 and my display.

Quake 4 sucks.

By the way, iampoor, you got poned by pook.

Thanks!

Oblivion looks absolutely amazing on maxed settings if you're looking to test your 8800 and display.

Do you guys think I can run Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion maxed out (with all of the Texture Packs) at 16x/16x or 8x/8x? (I'm talking about AA and AF, not CrossFire or SLi, lol.)

Absolutely. Especially with a GTX or GTX ultra. Even on my 320 Mb GTS, I can crank all settings (not positive what AA I'm at currently) and never, ever get below 35 FPS in very graphics intensive areas, closer to 60-80 FPS in more average areas, and as high as 200+ if I am standing still in some places.

You won't be able to run AA if you enable the HDR feature, which makes the game look much better in my opinion.
