New evga 680i Bios P30 - Page 2

The easiest way

Windows Installation - Alternate installation method
Note- If you have an older version of the NVIDIA Update Utility, please remove it before installing this new version
Before updating your BIOS, please load BIOS defaults by hitting the delete key during POST and select: “Load Defaults.†Now select “Save & Exit Setup.†After that has been completed please follow these instructions:
Download the following files: NVIDIA Update Center and NF68_P30.bin
Install the latest NVIDIA Update Center and run the program. (Use ONLY the above version, DO NOT use any previous version of NVIDIA Update Center.)

Once Update Center opens, Check the box “Clear CMOS†and then hit apply at the bottom right hand corner
Now select browse and locate NF68_P30.bin

Select load bios

After update center finishes, completely shutdown your system
Once the system is off, unplug your PSU and press the power button on the front of your case. (This will discharge the Motherboard.)

Wait 30-60 seconds to turn on or plug in your PSU and start up your system.
Press "Delete" to once again enter the BIOS, and load defaults. Save and exit; your system BIOS is now updated.

Thanks, Cyant and GTT. I don't have a floppy (which I probably should have, but ehh.. I don't like ribbon cables) but I can handle ISO files; I think I'll go with GTT's method, however, as it's nice and step-by-step. Rep is deserved!

There's a discussion about that going on at the EVGA Forums P30 Thread.... you may have to sift through some posts, but there are some first hand experiences there.

I've read through pretty much the whole thing... pretty interesting stuff, but take everything with a grain of salt of course.

Yeah... tried flashing to this BIOS today, using the .iso method on the EVGA forums, and now my computer locks up after windows loads. I get all the way to where it starts searching for drivers for the motherboard and stuff, and the computer just totally locks up and turns unresponsive.

I tried unplugging, clearing CMOS, pulling the battery and discharging the caps in the mobo, but after reflashing and doing this, I'm still having the same problem. Anyone know what could be the deal?

Honestly I have no idea; I stated before I'm a relative newbie to BIOS flashing, and figured this would be a good "first flash". I'm the cautious type, so I did the option that looked the safest and made sure to read up on how to clear the CMOS and such. And it totally messed up my board.

I'm currently searching for a way to flash back using an .iso file of a previous bios.

*edit* Yeah, I flashed back to the P29 BIOS and I'm still having the same problem; hang, then random blue screen. Sometimes it just hangs, sometimes it blue screens.. I just don't know what I did that messed it up so bad. Will I have to RMA my board? x___x

Updating; I successfully flashed back one more BIOS version (P28) and can boot into safe mode fine, something I weirdly hadn't thought of before. So I'm imploring anyone who can help to pitch in, heh; I'm going to try rolling back to my last save state in Windows and see if that works! After that, to bed I go.

*edit* Umm, I'm still having the same problem in normal windows, forgot to specify. Safe mode, however, works just dandy-like.

It's very important to remember to reset to default BIOS settings before you flash, and then change everything back to your previous settings after the flash.
