CPU Shopping...Please Help Me Decide - Page 2

I honestly don't think either one will overclock really well. They'll both probably hit around 3.1-3.2. That's pretty much the limit of AMD chips right now (on air). For the money, you'd be better off going for a Brisbane core and overclocking the hell out of it. It may be slower stock than your current CPU (X2 3600+), but that 3600+ will reach 3.0 on air...usually fairly easily. And again, 3.0-3.2 is about the limit on air you'll reach with AMD.

6000+, you don't have much headroom with either chip. So you might as well have the faster one at stock. 3 GHZ is hella fast.

Yea, hes right on with it. Your not going to get that much out of the 6000+ in overclocking, but it's always worth a try.

I vote intel...but aside I'd say 6000+

Well actually, I've seen many 6000+'es go up to 3.4 GHz on air at like 1.5vcore or so.

with amd the limit is usually 3.0 - 3.3; it is somewhat rare to get a higher clock than that with amd cpus.

now the advantage of the FX-62 is that it is an Fx, and like most FX's it has an unlocked multiplier. so may be that will do you some good, may be not. the 6000 does not have an unlocked multiplier.

I had the FX-55 before and it really OWNED, but that was a long time ago, like more than a few years. the Unlocked multiplier helps when overclocking but the stock speeds are near 3.0.

so if you get a 6000+ there probably wont' be too much overclocking, and with the fx-62 you will probably get a better overclock, but overall in general top speeds will end up being around the same area.

i'd probably go with the 6000

I think upgrading up from your current processor is pretty much a waste of money..You really aren't getting that much of an increase with the amount you're about to pay, either just wait for the next generation of AMD CPU's or go for a C2D, low end models even work, no matter how good your mobo is an E4300 or even an E2160 overclocked can be a lot faster than any X2 out right now..Out of those two though, I'd get the 6000+

Thread Starter
well the main reason im upgrading is because of the increase in size of the L1 and L2 caches....also , most here said it would only go like 3.2-3.4 on AIR.....i do not use air....i run a custom water cooling setup , with that said...id like to think id be able to get a little more than a 400mhz overclock with water....ive seen claims from others that they have gotten very close to 4ghz on water with the 6000+....though those claims might have been exaggerated ...i just ordered the 6000+ so i guess ill just have to wait and see what i can achieve...thanks for all the opinions...they really helped me make a wise decision.

go with the FX-62.
they easily hit 3Ghz, and it's a dual core cpu
