Speeds - Have you thought about...

Woo hoo, first post with Vista

Have you thought about....800MHz FSB....1066....1333..... do you remember when these were processor speeds? I remember thinking a 700 MHz computer at college ran SOOOO much faster than mine at home Just tripping down memory lane here lol. FSB speeds ...will probably reach 3.0 GHz plus in the next few years...if the FSB is not eliminated first of course. It's like living it all over again. Woo hoo...go Intel...

I seen a Cyrix 6x86-P166 (133 MHz) these days and remembered my very old "Pentium Killer Rig".
I had to buy it.
Maybe I find a way to mod it to my case....

What is very impressive to me are High end SAS/SATA Controller Cards.
With GPPUs running at 500 MHz and 256 MB DDR Ram.

I remember my first computer, in grade school a 600MHz Slot 1 PIII that my school threw away since it was 'broken'. I didnt really know how to build computers but I took it home and my dad took it apart and taught me all about the structure of a compy (macro (by parts) not micro (like circuitry)) then we troubleshooted it, it was the PSU so i just used a better one, 145W instead of the 100W that came with it

It had WIndows98, 4X CD-ROM, Floppy, 128 RAM

now it has 512 MB RAM, oc to 800MHz, and is a fileserver, has a TV tuner card that works only in 98 (no drivers work anywhere else)

lol. Won't be long and these computers will sound just as old as that one. Games will probably look like real people. This stuff sure moves fast.

God, I remember the day the old 386 died. I must have only been about 4, but the somber mood in the house that day sticks in my mind.

And then we got a Pentium 1 200mhz, and my first taste of real computing. It must have been that first level of Command and Conquer that got me hooked, I was blown away by the power of it.

And then the day I upgraded from a Pentium 2 400 all the way to a Barton 3200+, which I overclocked like a mother. There's nothing like getting a new processor to make you feel old.
