Suggestions for AMD CPU for build please!!!!!!

Thread Starter
First post! First off, PROPS to this site and all the members...wow it is a w e s o m e. i've been browsing here for about a month now and have no idea why i didn't register the first time .

so i'm pretty close to completing a system and am left with the 2 of critical parts: Mobo and CPU. I would like mid to high end processor with a decent Mobo but since i have never actually used an X2 4600, 5200, 5600, or 6000 i don't know firsthand how fast they are [only from Tom's Hardware CPU Charts and other benchmarks]...or how much they can handle before lagging.

I absolutely cannot put up with lag and am looking for a processor that will not slow down unless i purposely try to make it slow. Most of the things i do are Virus scan, winamp, AIM, web browsing, word processing, System monitoring...and....CS SIMULTANEOUSLY

Any suggestions please? [budget builder but am willing to go extra for the processor]. i was originally opting for the X2 4600, then went for the 5600, and now i'm looking at the 5200 since there is a $20 gap between the 5200 and 5600, and also the 5600 and 6000.

How well would these processors handle the tasks that i do??

The Mobo i would like to purchase is the GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 AM2 GeForce 6100 ATX....[i know it's now the newest thing on the market http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128034 ] unless anyone has any objections or comments.

is what the CPU and Mobo will be going with

Thanks in advance everyone!!

Just look at the sig brother. I am a very happy camper. I have my X2 3600 clocked higher than the 5200 and it was the easiest overclock I've ever accomplished and I know there's quite a bit more headroom too. You may opt for an SLI motherboard however, but do get a Brisbane core.

i just ordered a 3600+, wicked cheap and very overclockable
if you don't want to overclock, get something in the 5200+ - 6000+ range

because now with the price drops you can get a 6000+ for under 200 (cad)easily, maybe even $160-$170

my pick

1.opteron 1200 series.. if you dont have an am2 cpu laying around to flash bios to latest.. dont even go there....
2. 3600+ brisbane core.. the king of cheap cpu of oc PS you need to check bios version in order to be sure it runs the first time without a bios flash or youl be in the same situation as with an opteron...
3.those new X2 BE-2300 Brisbane dunno if they oc good... but since they are based on the brisbane core they should run good...
4.5600+
5.or if you could get a cheap single core orleans 3500+ and wait with that till phenom quad comes out!!

yeah i know about the 3600's legendary OC capability but i'm gonna have this system for a while and i just didn't want to deal with any potential issues from a high OC [heat, lifespan]. if i did get the x2 5200 i would only need to OC it a little [if it wasn't fast enough?] would you still recommend the brisbane 3600?

i was debating on an SLI mobo...but then i may upgrade to a 8800gts 320 after price drop?

haha i read it but $1000 is out of my budget...the entire system w/o monitor and keyboard/mouse i'm making was $560ish... i just don't have the money to buy all those goodies, haha

AMD 64 X2 5600+ $150
GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 Socket AM2 $75
BFG Tech 7900GS OC $100
Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 PC5400 675Mhz $85
Seagate 400GB 7200RPM 16MB cache SATA3.0 $80
Samsung Burner 18X DVDRW $35
Thermaltake Purepower 500W Dual Rail 29A PSU $35
Ultra Wizard Midtower $free

if i did have the money tho i'd get better stuff esp the mobo and graphics =T

would it better if i got an X2 5xxx CPU to get a 5200 and OC a little past the 5600?

I was just going to say...it's a good thing that you have 2Gigs. of ram, if you do all of the stuff you listed previously at the same time.
