I'm a cheap bastard - Page 2

You can buy an IDE to Sata converter, or an IDE PCI card. Both go for under $10 on Ebay. I'm also keeping both my IDE harddrives and my IDE DVD burner, and just going to pick up a converter.

slave/master seems like a good idea, dunno. But I don't like buying stuff online. But thats just me.. If I go ahead and buy it I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

GET A GIGABYTE GA965P-S3 FOR ONLY $20 more (~$120) AND IT HAS AN IDE PORT

MASTER: HD

SLAVE: DVD

i myself did exactly that used both IDE on that same exact board with C2D fine.

If this is the MOBO you are talking about it doesn't say that it's compatible with quad cores

I hate ECS btw...

Get the gigabyte board... and an IDE to SATA adapter for your old ass drive... why skimp on your mobo just because you want to be compatible with old hardware...

what's the difference between these two mobos?

+ Floppy free since 2000 (what pissed of as setting up first RAID0, why is MS not able to program a Setup that loads driver from USB or CD)

Manufacturers should get rid of old tech that slows down the hole system.
I hope they start to kill the PCI Bus soon and put nice PCI Ex 4x and a lot of 1x on next gen mainboards (Plus creative and co start to sell PCI Ex Cards)

The DS model got solid capacitors only.
They have a longer lifetime.
If you want to OC and not selling the MB in < 1 year, it is better to use the DS model...

Acually guys having a HD and a CD/DVD drive on the same IDE cable is a bad idea, slows down the HD quite a bit.

wrong. i am OC'd to 450 FSB and am stable at 500FSB with no extra cooling on NB or SB (CPU temp limits to 450)
run it 24/7 for over 3 months now

with a S3.

solid caps = 10 year life

not = 7 year life

7 years ago a PII was really good btw

do the logic

Hi sion1821,

Here's a much better board for well under your target price with 2 IDE channels.

ASUS P5N-E SLI

And there's a HUGE thread devoted to it on this forum.

Hope this helps.
