I would have to agree with you. I have seen some screenshot of what it can look like. I was seriously impressed, the SS was breath taking. BUT the industry needs to catch up with the tech. At which point new tech will come out... we will buy it asap and then complain that we can't use it yet. It happens all the time, yeah I have a dual core but what the hell uses dual core lol. As for the FPS everyone knows that game structure and coding makes a surprising inpact on FPS.

Yep, no idea why most anti-DX10 people think that DX10-capable cards suck. Hello they play DX9 too! I don't remember any last-gen CF/SLI setup doing consistently better than a single 8800GTX, especially at higher resolutions.

8800GTS BARELY putting out 30FPS? That is just plain sad. Forget about DX10.

Agreed.

I don't know what the deal is with all of these DX10 doomsday theorists... give it some time you bunch of impatient thumb twiddlers.

I got rid of my 8800GTS for what I paid for it after using it for several months to play Oblivion maxed, and bought an 8600GT to hold me over until the next generation of DX10 cards come out. I stand by my decision firmly.

Do you think I bought the 8600GT for its massive DX10 performance capability or what folks?

I think what disappoints me most is how unoptimized it seems. DX10 was suppose to make coding more efficient and allow the "cheaper" hardware to keep up with the high end stuff. So far the High end stuff cant keep up with our expectations.

As in since the release of DX9?

Yup. Oblivion on a 7900GT anyone? Of course not, its not possible. Not with all the eye candy anyway.

This, i think, is really my only concern too. You used to hear from everyone about how DX10 would give you the same eye candy on the same card and deliver 50% more FPS.

But of course, ****ty DX9 patches don't count do they? I'm guessing the whole engine code and game would have to be written in DX10 for us to see any real comparison.

I think also one hard realization for this forum to come to is the majority of people play their games on 1024x768 or 1280x1024. Although those would seem rather low to us, its the way it is, and therefore, from the benchmarks i've seen, the aweful DX10 patches aren't THAT terrible.

Ok let me put this a different way. Programmers have to learn and get used to the new coding system. It takes us more then a little while to completely switch and were basically noobs all over again for a while. So you need to wait until the game companies have completely mastered the system before you start wining.

Also, game development is already rushed enough. A developer won't risk using a completely new method when the old method is tried and proven. The learning process is incremental.
Once again...

I think everyone missed the entire point of the article.....

It's not a matter of DX10 implementation or game developers not focusing on it, it is lack of horsepower from the 1st gen DX10 cards themself. (which is clearly stated in that article)

You can implement all the new features of DX10 you want, but without being able to run it at a higher resolution and adding AA and AF, you won't see much of a difference compared to DX9.
