Isn't there an Asrock (like mine) for the C2D with dual slots (PCIe & AGP)?

I just don't see the point upgrading considering prices will be same or cheaper, by the time the upgrades are done, it would have cost the same or a few bobs more to have a cheap C2D system.
I guess it really depends on budget as its easier said than done.

If it's upgrades then I'd say ram 1st then CPU

1gb ram = ~$60
3700 cpu = ~$40
If you're after an Opteron 180 these cost about $200 in the UK, and PC4000 ram about $90

These are 2nd hand prices I would have thought.
[Well in the UK these would be approx prices (£1=$2)]

On 2nd hand you can pick up 1gb for about £30 delivered for unbranded or as I done £80 for 2gb Crucial value new from retailer.

For that price you can get 2gb of DDR2 (800) here

Thnx again

i had a 3200 and switched to a 2gig kit of ocz platiunum and the difference was awsome. So in my opinion get 2gigs of ocz platinum as its great ddr400. Then do a cpu upgrade. THen just oc the hell out of your cpu

If I were you I wouldn't get the Opteron 180 nor ram. With the money you wanted to spend I'd do an overhaul of the CPU, ram and mobo. I'm sure it'll be much more cost effective (and you can even sell your current parts)

In a few days, see how 22nd July affect the prices in the CPU market!

EDIT: Yes, your board will take PC4000 ram but if you mix it with your current PC3200 ram, the PC4000 ram will only clock down and run at the PC3200 speeds. Faster ram will only be good if you're overclocking anyhow.

If i do the things you suggest, then I'll need to drop over 500 bucks and decent video card, i just want to keep this ***** running another year at most.

What mobo, cpu, and memory do you suggest?
Asus with copper cooling tubes would be my choice, forgot model #.
And would get intel extreme E600 series cpu.
That's 4to 500 right there no?

just upgrade your ram for now and then start saving. THe ram will be good enough for a while and you can save to build a new comp when all the new stuff starts rolling out. that is what i would do. I have had my comp for like a year now and instead of jumping on am2 or c2d when it came out i got new ram and a free x 4200 shortly after and i saved for a quad build.

Exactly my point. Alot of dough is not in the cards...i have 200 bucks only to upgrade...so i guess it will be the ram. to 2 gigs.

Whatever i buy now will be old school in another year, then i'll blow everyone in here away telling me what i should get now!
lol.
