CPU Heatsink/Fan for P5N-E SLI Motherboard?

post #1 of 41
Thread Starter
Does anyone know for sure which fans will go on a P5N-E SLI motherboard without any mods? I want something that's silent (like the stock heatsink/fan). *looks at that big Northbridge heatsink*

Also is there a way to measure northbridge/southbridge temperature? Even though there's a hufe passive heatsink on Northbridge on that board... I don't think it'll sustain overclocking. I only want to raise my E6600 400-600 MHz or so.

Don't know if this was the right spot to ask. Sorry.
And don't say the stock fan will do please. ^^;

first off, any cpu heatsink/fan will fit fine, the zalman cnps9500/9700 are popular ones with people as they will knock off 10 degrees off ur cpu temperature and also comes with a fan speed controller. take a look at newegg.com and just pick which one u like, all cpu coolers will fit as long as they say supports socket 775.

concerning measuring cpu temps, you've got a program on your p5n disk called PCProbe which measures fan speed cpu temps, and voltage. others ones like speedfan and coretemp are good as well, have a look in the downloads section in the forum

the heatsink on the nb will be fine for the amount of overclocking u want to do, i've got my cpu overclocked by about 1ghz and is fine no problems for 3 months, not much change in temperature. i would recommend a heatsink for the southbridge though, as long as its a half decent one thats fine

Agreed.

SOme programs (like everest Home edition) can tell you the temperature of the northbrige.

Yea i"m using SpeedFan and CoreTemp + ASUS Probe for Voltages but they don't do Northbridge. I'll give Everest a look again since I didn't see it last time.

My concern isn't that the heatsinks for the socket will fit, it's whether it'll work with the motoerboard. A lot of people had trouble getting big fans on there because of the heatsink. See picture. (Yes I know my cables >_>)

Edit: Everest doesn't show my NB/SB temperature.. =(

Hehe. You think. =x With the Intel stock fan on.. It's pretty close to that heatsink already. *points to my picture you can't see* But I don't want to take chances ordering it and it won't fit. No modding for me. =(

Edit: Sorry.. Hotlink protection. Too lazy to turn off. Hold on let me go to ImageShack

Or you could just tell the lazy people to copy and paste the link into their browser like I did.

Lol.

Yeah that does look pretty close but if you buy a tower heatsink like the Tuniq Tower there's usually a few cms of clearance before the actual main body of the cooler begins.
