CPU Heatsink/Fan for P5N-E SLI Motherboard? - Page 3

Yeah definitely be careful, also watch out for shorting out anything on the back of the mobo with the backplate. I think this only happens on cheaper boards like the DS3 though.

Capacitors are those things sticking up out of the board that look like mini marshmallows. And don't worry about the backplate issue, I've only heard of it shorting out the Gigabyte DS3 motherboards. You have an ASUS, no issues there.

I didn't know a heatsink/fan would have them. But yes I know what they are.

And I found a list here in the mobo section:

Quote:
Compatible CPU Heatsinks (Guranteed fitment with stock NB heatsink, not with aftermarket NB HS!)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro (Requires slight trimming of plastic on NB side of fan, w/ stock P5N-E NB heatsink)
Zalman 9500
Tuniq Tower 120 (Tight fit, be careful of bending/breaking capacitors)
Ultra-90
Ultra-120
Noctua NH-U12
ThermalTake Silent Tower (Fan must be directed up towards the PSU)
Thermalright SI-128
So Tuniq TOwer ot Ultra120... Hm.

Both are very good performers, and roughly the same price as well. The TT120 comes with a fan for the price, the Thermalright Ultra120/Extreme does not. I went with the Ultra120 Extreme simply for the fact I trust Thermalright's products (stepped up from an Ultra90). YMMV though, but whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I suppose I'll go with Tuniq Tower.. Comes with fan and is $5 cheaper. =) Hehe, I'm poor. =P

And off topic but no one answered my question before. If I keep voltages the same on my CPU. Unlink the FSB and RAM. So RAM stays at 800 MHz 4-4-4-12. And make my E6600 go to 2.8 GHz using same voltage. That won't cause a problem with lifespan would it? Since same voltages.. =/

I can't do linked by the way... It keeps crashing. o.o
I guess my RAM is limiting it.. Or something. I'm new so I don't know.

CoreTemp reads my E6600's stock voltage @ 1.2875, and I'm at 3.0GHz (333*9) without a problem on stock volts. Getting to 2.8GHz shouldn't even require a voltage change...in fact, you may even want to consider undervolting

I'd manually set your vCore in the bios to what CoreTemp tells you is the VID. Then you can adjust up or down from there, depending on your overclock.

I just need it at the stock Vcore temperature, so I'm assuming if I keep it on Auto, it'll know to keep it at Stock? I don't really want to mess with the temperatures. Since I'm only doing a 400-600 MHz overclock.
