Arctic freezer 7 pro not doing its job?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

It's been a while, but I just upgraded my cpu cooler (and modded my case BOOYAH!) but I seem to be getting worse performance temperature-wise.

Basically, I was getting anywhere from 25-50 degrees depending on my ambient temps. However, I bought the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro and installed it, but my temps are constantly at 40-45 degrees.

Note: I used AS5 as my thermal grease and applied it in a line like the instructions said.

Help? (Thanks in advance)

are those idle temps? If they are the Freezer 7 was almost certainly not installed correctly/is not seated all the way. I know from personal experience with the same CPU that those temps are right on target for an unseated HSF.

Yes, those are idle temps. and the ambient is pretty cool (not sure how to measure my ambient temps, but def. not to blame for the high cpu temps)

If I reseat the cooler, will I have to reapply the AS5?

Can anyone answer a quick question:

Will I have to clean the cpu/heatsink and reapply the AS5?

most likely.

it DOES depend on how much was there to begin with.

but most people usually reccomend re-applying, for that.. PERFECT application ^_^.

My bet is.. it wasnt seated right/too much or too little AS.

Reseat man

didn't the cooler come with thermal paste on it anyway? if so, you should have used that - the stuff Arctic Cooling use is as good, if not better than AS5

anyway, i reckon you should clean your cpu and the base of the HS with some isopropyl alcohol, and then re apply some AS5.

My cooler, the same one in question is awesome so far...

The cooler does come with thermal paste on it. In this case, may not be seated properly?

mine is fine.. i applied arctic silver 5 in a blob and then spread it out in a thin layer over the whole heatsink. Its probably most likely that it isnt seated properly as others have said.
i get 100% load at about 40-45 degrees and idle 30-35.
i would reapply the AS5 if i was you, it may not be transfering properly.'
good luck.
