Need help oc'ing my system

Thread Starter
Hi I am new to overclocking. I don't know where to start. I have read some sticky posts about overcloking but I don't seem to get the whole lot about overclocking. I have two different ram installed.

Dimm 1: 512 MB PC3200 400 Mhz I believe
Dimm 2: 512 MB PC2700 333 Mhz

Here is the screenshot for cpu. CPU screenshot

I will upload screenshot for RAM on request.

Thanks in advance

You can overclock with different speeds of RAM its more timing thats the problem. As well as that the motherboard is the heart of a overclocking platform. You could have a chip thats capable of 4 ghz but if your board does not have overclocking option then............... On the RAM it will slow down to the lowest speed in the set you should show a CPU-Z shot of all the tabs to be sure.

Thanks for the reply. There is option to change settings like vcore in the bios. I just added kingston ram (used) yesterday. The guy didn't have PC2700 in 512 MB's stick but he said PC3200 still works but slower. He had two 256 MB PC2700 ram. I can tradein with that if different ram speed is the issue.

Here is the

Do two different ram speeds make it hard to overclock?

I don't think it would be that bad. Mainly it would just be a waste as the higher speed memory will just automatically be turned down to the lower speed. Then you'd basically be overclocking at that speed which really won't be an overclock of that RAM stick.

go into the bios and start raising the FSB in 5-10MHz increments, then check to make sure the system is stable with a program like Orthos, monitor heat, no higher than 60ºC at full load. If you get errors try raising the vcore a notch and check stability again. At some point you may need to unlink the memory, which may not be a bad idea to start with.
