Buying Laptop NEED HELP AND OPINION

Thread Starter
Ok i think i posted here before about this, except this time i seriously want to buy one.

AGAIN I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA. I would greatly appreciate an Australian store but if not a good value to performance laptop suggestions would be nice.

It is for my sister.
Mainly her activities include:
-MSN
-Watching all sort of media and listening to music.
-Word processing and the other similar stuf.
-Burning DVD and CD.

In all she is a basic user.

Although she doesn't do much, I wanna buy something of more better speed and performance. As you never know she might start gaming.

Minimum spec i would like are:
-AMD or Intel doesn't matter as long as its good for value( Around 2Ghz speed, dual core)
-1-2 Gig RAM
-80G HD
-A brand name graphics card not the company made ones(e.g. Intel GPX card)
-A reasonable battery life
-OS wouldn't really matter
-Around 14-15 inch display
-CD/DVD writer or burner(all formats)

Budget is AU$1200. Rather have dual core.
Ok thanks a lot for any suggestions.

hoi,
www.centrecom.com.au has a pretty good selection and their prices seem reasonable.
Thought about a Mac?

LOL she doesn't care as long as it does what she needs. You see my budget just won't cut for a good MacBook or other ones.

HP makes some great laptops. Compared to most other brands, they offer higher specs for less money. You're best bet is something with a midrange video card and at least 2GB of RAM.

My HP laptop was $1200 USD:

Turion 64 X2 Mobile 1.8Ghz
GeForce Go 6150
2GB DDR2
120GB 5400RPM
8x DVD MultiFunction
15.4" Widescreen
Built in webcam and Logitech Speakers.

there is no doubt that toshiba are good, however they can be a lot more expensive but thats only because they come with more.
i have found that there is a massive spec jump between paying 1200 and 1500 although that then goes over budget.

for watching movies, msn and stuff i dont think integrated graphics would be a problem.
you know im prob not the best person to give advise as ill just keep going back to the mac.
