Upgrading, please help

Thread Starter
I am finally upgrading my computer after not changing anything out for a very long time and I am hoping for some input as to what I am looking at.

New Parts

Mobo: MSI P6N SLI Platinum SLI 650i - $149.99
Proc: Intel C2D E6600 - $222.90
Ram: Corsair XMS2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel (2x1GB) - $174.00 w/ $30.00 MIR
GPU: EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR 8800GTS - $389.99 w/ $30.00 MIR

I plan on keeping my case, but I might need to upgrade my PSU. Any recommendations on PSU's would be awesome, I don't know too much about those. Also, I like this board because it is future proof; it has a 1333fsb, 2x16PCIE slots but also has 2xATA100 slots for my current HDD's. Can't afford to upgrade everything at once. So, any input would be greatly appreciated, if I should swicth a part out for something else please let me know. I am mainly trying to keep it under $1000.00 but am not opposed to spending a little more if it is worth it. Let me know what you think, thanks everyone!!!!

all looks good to me dont know much about the mobo, I would reccommend an evga if your bent on sli or a p35 like the asus p5k. OTher then that looks great and for psu i always reccoment the pc power and cooling silencer 750 its awsome.

Here are some tips:
Processor: instead of the E6600, wait until JULY 23 or 24th, the Q6600 will be at 266$ and the E6600 and E6*50 processors prices will lower, check the attachment below

MOtherboard: why msi and not asus? I dont know much about MSI, but the asus P5NE-SLI 650i board is 20$ cheaper OR 87$ oem at newegg and has the same features as MSI. HOWEVER, if you have had great experience with MSI (tech support, drivers, periferals) then by all means dont let me sway you.

Ram:excellent choice

Gpu: excellent choice

Power supply: you DEFINETLY should upgrade. your 400w psu MAY be able to run the rig you're ordering but it will probably be right at the limit, which is not good at all.
I suggest the Antec truepower 650W psu, 89$ after 40$MIR. all the power you'll need for the next decade or so... for your computer anyways.

EDIT: I agree with sZayat for the cpu cooler, howerver, if you get the Q6600 instead of the E6600, save up for water cooling or a Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme + Silverstone FM121 fan, quads can get quite warm if you plan to overclock.
The ram however, I wouldnt recommend those red gskills, mine couldnt even run up to 900mhz. you can get the same ram, XMS2 corsairs for ddr2-800 at 83$
As for the video card. the 320MB will take anything you chuck at it, but the new DX10 games look like they will stress the videocards more than usual, so i would agree with him, get the 320MB and if not satisfied, you can do that step up program from evga after 90 days.

Agreed WC is much better.
& as Nevaziah know better about RAM; stick with Corsair
Anyway I still find 320MB more than enough.
