Yes I have heard. But there is no winning in the computer hardware world. The stuff you buy today will become old in 6 months or less. There is never a win.

I anticipate the X38 to be too expensive when it comes out. Why do you say the 2900xt as oppose to the 8800GTX?

If i had a choice between those two cards with a single pci 16 slot i would go witht the GTX the reason being that it beats the 2900xt by about 5,10% performence matters where you look plus the 2900xt is a BEAST and it needs an entire powerstation to run it. It uses about 100 more watts on load than the 8800gtx on full till

But since that p35board that you are looking at has crossfire support go with the 2900xt and upgrade later. If you don't care about crossfire/SLI go with the gigabyte board without those featchers it's a bit cheaper if i remember right If you got the cheaper board with one pci-e 16 slot just get an 8800gtx

But if you are going to be upgrading to a crossfire rig later i suggest you look at the Crossfire Certified PSU's

I am only linking to that because I always see SLI certified psu's but never crossfire psu's

If you are later going to be upgrading to another 2900xt then i suggest you go with a 1KW psu. Because the two must annoying things in a computer to replace is the powersupply and the Motherboard.

And for the X38 thing. I can't give you an exact date when the new X38 stuff is supposed to come out but the rumor if i remember it is in september. With that comes all new graphics cards AGAIN!!! Don't you have innovation. Yes i know what it feals like. I had this computer like 6-7 years ago and did alot of upgrades built this rig for about $1800 and now it's worthless.

I would wait off till september if you can but then you would have to wait again for the new PCI 2.0 stuff to come out which will be a drag. Here is one thing you can do though. I believe that the X38 will also have support for DDR2 and DDR3 together not sure though i suggest you buy a cheap P965 mobo or something for now and everything else normal price but make sure it will work with teh x38 stuff and when the x38 mobos come out you can swap out the board. How's that for an idea
