I know this is the last resort but have you thought of RMAing the vid card? What brand vid card is it?

Its a BFG but the thing is the same problem persists when I use my really old 6800GS, so I know it isn't the video card.

One thing I have not seen posted yet is to try adjusting your rates. Open the console in CS:S and enter: net_graph 3. Watch your loss and choke rates they should stay at or around 0. If they are not, try entering these commands in your console:

rate 25000
cl_cmdrate 66
cl_updaterate 66

If it helps, play around with the numbers until you can get your loss and choke rates to stay around 0. Good luck!

I don't know if this was suggested yet. I'm too lazy to read the majority of the pages... Try turning the vertical-sync off. It doesn't help unless you run on a massive resolution. (And if you don't it only rapes FPS) Worth a shot. Nothing else has worked yet.
'bout time.

I don't think it's just CSS, if I remember right he said he was experiencing the problems in call of duty? Sorry if I'm wrong lol, this is a big thread.

Btw my BFG 6800GT played CSS like trash with everything on Medium.

It’s an Update issue
According to my server provider there is quite a lot of bugs that have come with CS:S newest update. not compatible with some Linux servers if you have noticed the game getting very laggy with a low ping that due to this update (or a rubbish server) I’ve heard quite a lot of complains about FPS drops, as of far there been no fixes or solutions by my knowledge
my PC spec is (see my Signature) I average at 80-90 fps but lately I’ve been getting big drops to 30 and less fps like my graphics cards is getting choke I just hope they fix it next up date if I come buy a solution il let u know

Was playing then 100FPS woooo for 20 mins as soon as allot of stuff starts to happen 30 then the FPS dies a nice horrible death then goes back up for bit very annoying

It isn't just that though, the weird part is I get like 208fps sometimes yet it begins to get really choppy. The fps won't drop though.
