My friends got the same card I do but the 256mb version, I'll see if he'll let me use it later but I doubt it, his parents are strict about part sharing because they don't want anything bad to happen to them.

Turns out that the PEG thing made it run a little better, but the choppiness is still there.

Well I'm glad my suggestion help a little but I know what your saying, you get good fps but it runs like crap. I'm curious to see what a diff vid card would do. Your buddy needs to sneak his card over and let you use for 20mins for testing.

i've had that problem with the 4600+. games would become erratic after running for ~2 minutes, everything would stutter due to a sudden massive increase in CPU usage. unfortunately I don't have a mgical fix for it, as I gave up through frustration. but i'm adamant it was a motherboard problem, as it only started after the mobo spazzed out for about 2 weeks, not even letting me get to the POST.

check your cpu usage in task manager by alt tabbing out of a cpu intensive program like cs:s while the stuttering is occuring.

Acually I had a simillar problem; CSS would appear to be lagging, but my framerate was okay.

How I fixed it was forcing vsync on in the control panel, and setting it to off in-game.

Thats one of my problems, V-Sync makes the game run really smooth, and it makes my shots register better, but the thing is it also gives my mouse a bit of latency, so my reaction time is a lot slower. I can't have that.

I'd be willing to bet you've alredy tried all the "dual core gaming fix's"

Did you try what I suggested? With mine, I had the same type of stuttering with the dual core when I first installed it, I then tried all the dual core gaming fixes, which resulted in mediocre performance gains.

The fix for me was a fresh install of xp, not adding any of the "gaming fixes", and -auto configing to default.

I then put in my launch options "-w 1680 -h 1050 +rate 30000 +cl_cmdrate 100 +cl_updaterate 100 +exed binds.cfg"

And I get more fps than any previous config, with everthing on high.

The reason you would take out "-dxlevel <>" or "-autoconfig" out of your launch options is so it dosen't change your settings everytime. I.E. you disable HDR in game, it will stay that way.

Let me know...

so you're saying v-sync eliminates your problem?

if so, i recommend offsetting it with this:
