The chipset base is mostly the same. Using 2 older versions as examples, the nForce 3 and nForce 4. If you interchange the two boards/hard drives they will work without a reinstall. The nForce chipset is similar with the two, so Windows will boot, but it will take a little time due to the fact that the chipsets are slightly different, but the drivers will work with both. UDA is nice like that
So just take his HDD, stick it in your machine, wait for it to finish finding the drivers and reboot once or twice, and then you'll be ok. If it goes to BSOD then they're incompatible - which would be weird.
