Low FPS in CS:S with4200+ x2, 2.2GHz stock, 939 - Page 34

Well, when you said it lagged when you came up to another person, it made me think "yeah, maybe HDD, but maybe CPU also." Is there a patch for your CPU? (I think that x2 means Dual core right? I don't use AMD)

Yeah x2 means dual core, I installed the dual core optimizing patch, it makes them both run at the same speed, therefore fixing that if it was the problem. And do all hard drives click before they die? Because now everything is loading a whole lot slower than it was when it was loading slower lol, and its taking forever to do anything. Looks like perfect timing to buy a hard drive on my part.

Try setting the games affinity to only one core. To do this as you probably know, goto the Task Manager / Processes then find CSS and right click once the game is on, then hit affinity and change it to only one core.

Yeah, HDD clicking is WAY weird. But also try above.

I don't have a dual core processor, so I am not TOO knowledgeable, but I hear people having similar problems with games, so try that.

If the drive is clicking (Maxtor or Seagate?) you can use the utilities from the manufacturer to try and catch the act early, and then mark/reallocate your bad areas. Usually, if the clicking starts, it's best to replace. Aside from using the manufacturer's software, there should be one or two other applications to do "bad sector recovery" or "bad sector reallocation" on certain model drives, or most model drives.

Wait, have you tried to DeFrag the ENTIRE HDD? And ScanDisk? If the above is correct, then you can keep both, albet the bottom will have bad sectors.

I have tried everything you guys have been mentioning before, but I know its the hard drive for sure, it is getting slower by the minute, every program I run, the loading time is being slower, when I restarted my computer the time before the last time, it took a minute, I just did it again, it took 4 minutes, I'm just about ready for this to shut off.

And the one I have is a Western Digital, no clicking yet, but my question is, can it die without clicking. I think it is slowly dying, haha.

It's possible to die without clicking. Ususally a bad controller board though. If possible and you can change it with another, that would be good.

Wonder if it's possible to flash firmware on a HDD? I know it can be done with servers - UPDATE MICROCODE on different components. Anyone know if it can be done to user equipment? Sans ODD.
