I don't know my processor speed?

post #1 of 12
Thread Starter
I know that title sounds stupid... And right now I fill stupid. I have been running my system for about a week at 3.2 (8x400) Everything was stable 4 hours on prime, just running sweet. Tonight I was playing Halo on line when all of a sudden it crashes , memory dump and reboot. (1GHzx4 G Skill 4-4-4-12 1:1 by the way) I was running voltage conservative so I figured on reboot I would just up the volts a little to 1.38.
Well this is what I find (sww attachment) when I reboot and it is not running as good as it was, low 16s in PI and I was getting that when I new it was 3.2!

From my experience with core 2's, they seem to have dynamic speeds, that change when you use them, to save power, reduce heat, etc. So that could explain the weird numbers.

ya I have those shut off in the bios , have had experience with those but they reduce the multiplier to reduce speed not raise it.

Some programs (and Windows, afaik) like to use the default multiplier for your chip at all times, regardless of the fact that you've apparently lowered it to 8 (from 9). Its running at whatever you've got it set in the BIOS, and as long as you know what it's set at, and at least one reputable program recognizes it, its all good.

Try running Memtest86+ and see if it comes back with any errors. Chances are with the ram that heavily OC'd, a small power fluctuation could have caused the ram to act funky temporarily. You never know.

Seeing as you've lowered the multipleir some programs will display you clock speed as if you haven't. This is a glitch with certain Intel motherboards, though you can trust the latest version of CPU-Z to always show the actual clock speed.

You're speed is 3.2

400x8=3200. So you're speed should be 3.2Ghz
