It is basically 3DMark05 with SM3.0 and a linear scoring scheme.

Last I checked, there are very few (if any) games that run HDR on SM2.0. The levels are the same, with just minor changes. Nothing new except for the CPU test and the arctic level.

Anyone else notice the various Futuremark logos hidden throughout the game? There's one on the flying ship, there's one in the snow on the arctic level...

I think that quite simply, there is NO way to consolidate your computer's performance into just one number. I don't mind rating each component individually, but a computer with a ****ty hard drive could probably run Crysis full spec, while a computer with a ****ty graphics card could run GTASA full spec. Switch them around...and one can't keep up with graphics, one can't keep up with dynamic loading.
There's similar cases for CPU in source/UT-based games. I'm not going to go into extreme details but I agree that 3DMark scores should be taken with a grain of iodized salt.

mmm, iodized salt. yeah, i'm not saying that 3DMark is totally worthless. it's definitely a good standard to compare different setups with. you just need to make sure you check several tests before you make up your mind about a certain video card or processor.

with nvidia some of it's cards will woop up on the ati version of the card, but comes to game time the ati card wins.

mr bungle even if ti doesn't use AA or AF it still loads down the gpu quite a bit. there are times I'm hitting 14fps with my oc 1950xt and yet still pull out some good scores. I would be afraid to see this thing with 6x aa and 16x af welcome 1-2fps :-)
