Opinions on build..

Thread Starter
Hi, I want to get a Q6600 based system with an 8800GTS after July 22nd. I want the ability to OC slightly, on a cheapish budget (£750) and wondered what you guys think of the build. Here's my build:

CPU: Q6600£200.00
GPU: 320Mb eVGA 8800GTS£189.12
Mobo:ASUS P5K AiLifestyle Series iP35 Socket£84.45
RAM: Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 675MHz£56.99
HDD: 2* 300 Gb Seagate ST3300620AS£81.76
Optical:2* Samsung SH-S203£37.58
PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 600W£54.24
Floppy:Sony Black FDD£3.71
Internal Card Reader: XPro Internal 3.5" 17-in-1 Card Reader£10.99

Total£718.84

Add about £20 for an Artic Cooling Freezer 7, some AS5, and some TIM cleaner and it's about £740.

Will the RAM be ok if it's only PC5400? Is the RAM any good, I'm not 100% on what the timings mean. And any improvements or cash saving methods you guys can see?

Thanks

It's look pretty good. I'm not sure how DDR2 667 compares to DDR2 800 in overclocking so I can't help you there. But other than that, it looks good. One more thing, what are you using for a case?

yea, id go with the crucial ballistix or g.skill hz's. both ddr2 800. its much better than the 675

The G.Skill's are about £8 more. Do I get them? And what type of OC can I expect from the Q6600 G0?

Will 2Gb be sufficient for running Vista Ultimate with games such as BF2, CS:S, DoD:S and UT2007 on the highest qualities? (Maybe not UT2007 highest) And would it play Crysis?

Thanks guys

2GB should be enough for the time being, but I don't about the future games as they may use more ram than current ones. So you could get 2GB now and then get another 2GB kit later on when you have the money for it.

If you want to OC I recommend the P5K Deluxe it is said to OC a little bit more with alot less voltage

I've never OCed anything except my ATI X800, using ATiTool so I'm not very sure about how to even go about it. So is the P5K Deluxe a much better mobo for OCing a Q6600 as opposed to a 680i chipset or any others? Also, is the Freezer 7 Pro enough for OC a Q6600, and should I get AS5, or MX2 or something?
