There should be an icon for your drive on the desktop or in Nautilus (the file browser)... If not, open the terminal and type : sudo mount -a ... Be careful with your files!!!... If you decide to Install see here first:

EDIT: Just noticed you have an ATI X1900 you should read this too:

does ubuntu have ntfs file support built into it? i know when i used FC6 it was a special install, so i'm not sure if it is included on the cd. but just use the browser and look for a c: drive or something.

when you install ubuntu it should ask about which partion to install on, you should also be able to create a new one. but i would DEF make sure you backed up anything important first just in case something goes wrong.

ok, so i have another hdd hooked up to my comp right now and when i try to transfer files from hdd1 to hdd2, it says this:

Quote:
Error while copying to "/media/disk...rk/Desktop".
You do not have permissions to write to this folder.
i tried updating a list as suggested in another thread and installing something..

these are the commands i used:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ntfs-config

still getting that permission problem thing..
working on it...
