*Complete* AM2 Build w/LCD < $750

Well, I've seen a lot of people at OCN here looking for budget AMD gaming builds... and I know there have been some created already.... but I figure I'd make a complete budget AM2 build that includes absolutely every piece of hardware you'd need (including a monitor) to get up and running - for less than $750. (Fine, I'm a little bored... but this is kinda fun and I enjoy helping my fellow OCN members. )

Everything is here, right down to the keyboard and mouse. I don't believe I left anything out, and if I did please bring it to my attention. Like I said, this build also includes a monitor - a 17" LCD that has gotten some pretty good reviews.

It's basically an X2 3600+ Brisbane system intended for overclocking and gaming. All the components should allow at least modest to decent overclocks and a generally strong, reliable rig that has great potential for future upgrades as well. I understand that different people may want different specific components, but this is at least a broad guide to go by overall - to meet a certain budget.

It took me a good deal of time to get this list completed... I sifted through quite a few items for each component on the list and went through a fair amount of reviews to make sure every item is at least above-par value and quality. Take a look, it should all be there.

Case: Rosewill R642K BK ............................. $20.99 + 6.99

- A decent small/mid-tower case from a well known company. Includes an 80mm fan and 10 total drive bays - room to play with in the future.

PSU: Thermaltake TR2 430 Watt .................. $39.99 + 7.84 - $12 MIR

- A quality PSU from a trusted company in said field.

CPU: AMD Athlon X2 3600+ 65nm ................ $61.99 + 0

- This is probably, in many people's eyes, one of the best budget CPU's for overclocking right now. Has the potential to be overclocked to X2 6000+ speeds for a fraction of the price (with good cooling, of course)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master GeminII ............. $33.99 + 0 - $15 MIR

- Effective but inexpensive. It's gotten a lot of praise here at the forums. Great reviews, too. It should help OC the Brisbane to it's full potential.

(Fans): Rosewill 120mm 77CFM (x2) .............. $6.98 + 4.99

- A couple of high-powered, quiet, but inexpensive fans for the GeminII

Mobo: Biostar Tforce 550 ............................. $79.99 + 6.33 -$15 MIR

- This motherboard has received a lot of praise around here for being a low cost, yet efficient overclocker for AMD X2 Cpu's.

RAM: Corsair XMS2 1GB DDR2-667 .............. $49.99 + 0

- This high-performance RAM has great potential overclocking ability and comes with heat spreaders. It should suit the X2 3600+ nicely. (Future upgrade to 2GB could be needed later though.)

Video: EVGA 7900GS 256mb KO ................ $124.99 + 5.84 - $20 MIR

- The 7900 series - very good gaming cards. Prices have dropped quite a bit in price lately.... this GS KO (overclocked) edition will play most any game out there ATM with high detail. A great reliable GPU overall from EVGA.

HDD: WD 200GB Caviar SATA II ................... $54.99 + 0

- SATA II 3.0 GB/s for maximum data transfer speed. Western Digital is one of the most reliable names in data storage. 200GB should be plenty. Later upgrading is a snap.

DVD: LITE-ON 20X DVD/CD Burner ............... $30.99 + 5.84

- I have this one myself and it's great. Burns CD's and DVD's well.

Kbd/Mouse: Microsoft Basic Set ................... $16.99 + 6.33

- A basic set, I've owned these as well and liked them.

Speakers: Logitech S-100 ............................ $11.99 + 6.54

- Simple speakers from Logitech... possible upgrade later, but does the job.

OS: Windows XP Home SP2B OEM ............... $89.99 + 0

- Not much explaining here.

Monitor: MegaVision 17" LCD 8ms 500:1 ... $179.99 + 22.45 - $50 MIR

- This LCD has gotten some good reviews @ Tiger Direct. Not extremely high-end but a quality display for the price.

-----------

SUBTOTAL ...................... $803.85
+ S/H (Combined) ............... $53.16
- Rebates ........................ ($112.00)

*** GRAND TOTAL = $745.01 ***

I've used "combined shipping" so it will equal to that if you order everything at once (except for the monitor, which is a separate order from Tiger Direct). This will probably vary if you reside outside continental US, however.

Prices will change over time as well, so I'll check everything occasionally and do some editing as needed as well.

Comments/suggestions/corrections welcome, thanks!

*** quite of bit of editing done... lol ***

PS: If you're reading this and looking to build your first rig, by no means would I take this list and purchase everything on it without checking over everything and changing the specifics to meet your needs. Happy building!

May I make a small suggestion for change? for that price, you can an 8800gts instead of 7600gt. chek this out:

Biostar Tforce 520
8800GTS 320MB
80GB SataII hdd
LIteoN DVDRW
Case

Ditch the fans, ditch the gemini cooler and use stock (the oc wont mean nothin vs the 8800gts)
. with COMBINED shipping, it will be preety much the same price(provided you're not in california with the taxes )

I understand what you're saying... but exchanging the $90 7600GT for a $280 card would put it well over the price limit.... as I've included Windows, a case, a CPU cooler with fans, etc.

I want to make this a complete system, where all you'd have to do is plug in a monitor... and putting in the GTS would go way over $600 with all the necessity parts.

And I still see what you have after editing... but I just don't think it's feasible with the GTS... at least not with all the mandatory parts and after shipping (even if combined).

Speaking of which... I suppose I could combine the shipping totals by putting all that stuff in my cart.... maybe I'll do that and find out... edit: done.

Thanks, I'll update.

EDIT: Whoops, it goes over $750 by about $20 due to the rebate being only $20. Sorry.

That power supply probably won't cut it..
Replace that with a Fortron 400W or a good Rosewill for the same price, and that'll be plenty of power
I have that same exact power supply on my P4 rig, it's reliable, but just not enough power

Oh, well don't ever count on MIR. I have gone through 3 separate ones and I only have had one successful rebate.

And I think the extra 3" on the monitor is worth the extra

Yeah, I tend to agree but I'm trying my darnedest to keep it under $750.

I've sent in 9 different rebates and received the money from every single one.

Odd how some people have rebate trouble and some don't
