Maybe it's just that I'm used to loading under 50C with my 7900.

i heard about it. even got too hot for LN2 at some point. dunno where i read that, was in the news here somewhere.

It got too hot for LN2 @ 1.2Ghz core.

Yeah obviously running this card at like twice the maximum speed makes it hot? Such a design flaw, I mean when all the other video cards in existence obviously don't heat up with added voltage and clock speeds right?

Sorry but what are your ambient temps? I have to call total bull on that because my last card was a eVGA 7900GT KO and 50C load isn't right. Temp sensor malfunction, either that or your lying.

Room temp. ~25 C or so. With a VF900, loaded at around 60C on stock.

Don't call me a liar.

Eh you could be telling the truth. Even then the VF900 is after market cooling. Didn't like how warm it was running? <big grin here>

Wanted to volt mod, but I could have with stock cooling. Plus, I prefer to have everything run cooler, even if it's fine as it is.

And I am. Thanks for the trust and respect, though, really appreciate it.

i'm gonna have to go with Modki on this one. you shouldn't try to make another card look bad by talking about your temps and conveniently forgetting to mention that you have an aftermarket heatsink on it. apples to oranges, bud.

Frances, i don't own a 2900, but it does seem like the only people talking about how hot they are are the idiot reviewers on Newegg and the people that don't own them. all 2900 owners i've talked to said the temps are fine, even better than your 1900.

if temperature is a huge worry of yours, keep in mind that the 2950XTX is due out in a couple months and is rumored to use less power and run even cooler than the 2900s.

PS you really can't compare Michigan temps with Southern California temps. your temp vs. mine means nothing.

Yeah sorry, it just irks me when everyone who's only read the reviews posts that sort of stuff like it's true or something.

Like the people who go "Lol the card is loud" yes at 100% fan speed the card is loud enough to hear across the room. The card usually cools to under 70Cº at only 30% fan speed though, you'll never hear 80% much less 100% fan speed unless you make it in ATI Tool.

Or the people who think just running the card at stock will melt the back of the case. Or Chisel's little example of "Too hot for LN2" taken out of it's context makes a little more sense when you look at the clock speeds they were running at the time.

Why don't any of these people take a second and ask a question about the card and try to understand more about it like francesthemutes tried to do?

Oh right, because the thread is almost immediately awash with wrong information like "they run insanely hot" from people just trying to be stupid. Then comes the flaming and ... hell I'm tired of just explaining the same thing over and over.

I read the VRZone review where they had the card under phase change and it loaded at -20C or something...how does that make it too hot for LN2? LN2 makes it a lot colder. The limiting factor probably wasn't the temp, but rather the voltage.

I was in no way trying to make the 2900XT look bad. It's certainly not a favorite card of mine, but to me, 70C IS hot.

I didn't hide that my card is cooled by an aftermarket heatsink. It's right in my sig, in plain view. If no one looked there, it's certainly not my fault.

I love how defensive ATI owners get whenever a person with a nVidia card says something remotely bad about an ATI card. Oh, we must be horrible lying fanboys, because there's never any problems with ATI cards.
