Do I need better chipset cooling?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I've recently built my new system about a month ago and as time has progressed I've made additions to my case to try to lower temps. I have everything just the way I want it, however, my SYS temps are kind of high. I'm not sure what the max temp would be for the SYS, but I'm currently sitting around 40-44c at idle and can go into the low 50's when under load.

The stock cooling for the NB is a simple passive heatsink and I don't even think the SB has any cooling on it what so ever. Do you guys think I need to get an aftermarket cooler for the NB and SB chips? If so can I get some recommendations for my Gigabyte 965P-DS3 board.

Yea it would be a good idea. Will make your OC more stable and can sometimes allow a higher OC.

However low 50's is about average. Chipsets can handle a lot more than CPU's

Although i'm not familiar with any chipset coolers for that board sorry.

Thanks for the info at least I know that my temps aren't out of whack from what they should be.

Does anyone have any suggestions for chipset coolers though?

Try releating it with AS5 first and see if your temps come down a bit..

But iced earth is right chipsets are safe around 50C..

Idk what cooler you should get, but defiantly reseat it first before you buy anything else.

I'll look around for some coolers though.

Get something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835116018

And then just use your current passive NB heatsink on the SB, as they don't require a whole lot.

Hmmmmmm those suggestions are nice, but I'll have to check the clearance for that Thermaltake cooler since my NB is pretty close to my CPU cooler. If anyone has anymore suggestions keep em coming. Oh would also be nice to see some canadian providers since Newegg doesn't ship here.

Thanks!
